From the
Netherlands comes the Dutch progressive rock band Sky Architect with their
highly anticipated third album "A Billion Years Of Solitude." The new album was
released on November 4th on Galileo Records and carries a classic prog-rock
sound, but with a heavy metal edge.
The
eighteen-minute opener "The Curious One" starts out sounding like the perfect
follow-up to King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King." They add
elements of metal with Pink Floydian, space-like soundscapes in order to bring
their influences into today's modern music world. Sky Architect sound more like
Tool with the harder dark sounds of "Tides, before stretching out their talents
on the ten-minute "Elegy Of A Solitary Giant." The shortest song on the album,
"Jim's Ride To Hell" is pure progressive metal, while the twelve-minute album
closer "Traveller's Last Candle" brings you on a journey with some flashes of
grunge alongside, jamband experimentation to create some uniquely appealing
music.
