THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)

THERE IS A LINE THROUGH ALL THINGS

You see it in those lines in stones/layers in sand
Cities buried deep in ancestral forgetting / Egypt
defies tourists while revolution draws lines between
Syria and Lebanon, Iraq and Iran - ancient divisions
encamp with weapons but no water. Arms but no legs
Sometimes you can see the jagged bright of lightning
I did not say it was a straight line (nor ever was)
Curling river/smoke from a burning oil pipeline
Signs,symbols,scars in sand and stone
Blood, oil, gas, diamonds - all need water and light
which is a line borrowed from the Nile
where stripped Pyramids sit, squat among homeless
no one speaks Ancient. No one listens. Dumb wonder
and a lack of replication. Bruce Chatwin posited songlines
as feng shui for earth/ley lines that flow electrically /
a geo-map of where significance sits. When birds complain,
it is the song of winged lines they are releasing.
It is a correspondence and a conversation.
All creatures who respond - know...
