THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)

A RIVER IS LIKE THAT
GREAT RIVERS ARE GREAT LOVERS
Ask those in houseboats on the Seine
like inundations of the Nile/literacy Tigris-Euphrates
We grow to love our inland waters.Mississippi riverboats
Mark Twain.Spoon River Anthology.Yet rivers change
like habitation and commerce.Boats float then are junked like books.
Become floating casinos/Museums/Ghost Relics. We all have them-
places Sacred to our Growing. Were we to return,it would be owned
by different folk with different stories.Thames.Ganges.Murray.Murrumbidgee.
Every time we dip into waters of memories,we sink into a past mud no one else knows.
Scrape it off your tourist shoes. It follows you home/demands to be fed.
So you write it down and serve it up-to new ghosts
who have not heard this one yet..
