Rick Wakeman at Cheltenham Town Hall

Rick Wakeman at Cheltenham Town Hall
WHEN Rick Wakeman was five years old, he performed in his first concert for his music teacher Mrs Symes.

And being so little, he was so encouraged by the applause after his first recital of 'Monkey on a stick' (a tune he says he re-worded when he was 12!) that he played it again. And then again.

It was during his fourth performance that his mother had to coax a doubtlessly beaming and adorable young Rick away from the piano, but it was as prophetic an evening as Rick now reckons his composition of The Six Wives of Henry VIII would be of his future marriage record: Rick keeps playing, and we keep loving every moment.

The problem with a review of someone as respected, beloved and multi-talented as Rick is that it is nigh on impossible to do him justice.
