Here is the seventh of Martin Springett's ideas for artwork for the next album, 'Strange Kingdom'.
Martin says:
"While creating the Gardening Club graphic novel, I had a rather
odd sub-plot dealing with sentient plants. I wanted to echo those Victorian
women, who although 'amateurs', had amazing knowledge of scientific matters,
one of the most famous of course was Mary Anning of Lyme Regis, who made
astonishing discoveries amongst the fossils found in that area of Dorset. She
was well known in the scientific community,
but because she was a woman, was not allowed to lecture or present the material
as her own. The 'boys' took all the credit. So here, in the second image, we
have Lady Emily Sterling, an expert in the area of the sentient plant, about to
be overruled by an annoying male 'expert' from the government. Emily's sister
Eve, is listening to the evening song of a Fibbulous Glattocus on the album
cover! You see, all this stuff does come from, a Strange Kingdom."
