THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

HIGH-RISE AUSTIN CLAWS OUR SKYLINE
Dwarfing our Capitol Building-revealing Corporate power-
An anonymous skyline that could have been dumped from Mars
Serves only those who can afford condominiums in Towers.
Single story businesses/buildings razed /displaced/dispossessed.
High rents give no space to working class Austinites-
creating a new class of homeless (those on minimum wage slavery)
Working poor commute from Buda /Kyle.Business leaders want to move THE ARCH
out to the outskirts of town(like COMMUNITY FIRST).APD harasses homeless.
Austin Central looks like a Mini-L.A.Malls of Generica.Insurance and Tech workers.
Parking restrictions lower the viability of City events.Public Transport ?Nothing after midnight.
Money madness impels competing Towers. We could be anywhere. No more "Village"
A Central Business District Pedestrian Mall might alleviate the pressure.
So might mini-buses like the old Armadillo.Send ACL to F1.Re-wilde Zilker Park.
We need PEOPLE SPACES,not high-rise car parks.Smaller circles of communities ..
Mueller Development could have shown the way..Is it too late for Austin?
Real Estate vs Real People's Needs..You choose...
