THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)

NUMBERS
I know one Syrian (hairdresser
whose husband took her back to Damascus
I know 6 Lebanese(they shelter one million Syrians)
i know no Jordanians,three Iranians,no Iraqis
one Palestinian(yes-born in a refugee camp)
another a fine poet whose late father was also a (poet)journalist
So when you say two million Syrian people are refugees
and up to 10,000 are fleeing across borders daily
i try to picture the people i know
none of whom are military
nearly all of whom are poetry-
they love it,are it,their lives extended in depth and resonance
because they embrace harmonies, rhythm, rhyme, reason in their lives
i cannot bomb myself.nor any part of these fine folk.Something is wrong in this equation
Give them food, not bombs.Shelter all dispossessed.
