THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)

WORKPLAY
LAPSES OF EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS
i learned work on a temporary basis
learned it is not nor ever has been the root of the tree of life
UNLESS it is your heart's art and your soul dance
and who pays for others to enjoy their self-trance?
Many temporary jobs ended satisfactorily
Their very nature as as a temporary fix
To cover the patches in clothing, the holes in rent
To stitch necessities into a semblance of fit
So i would sleep through long days with no "work"as such
writing,learning,absorbing,emanating,performing
sometimes weeks would go by like this-then months
Till bills sang a chorus line /and i was out of step
Ant and grasshopper me,alternating realities/fantasies
Projecting a benign carelessness upon a world
that has no use for bards, prophets, pilgrims of pleasure
No use for 8 tracks,Edsels, cassettes, books or memories
Short term attention haiku existential moments goldfish bubble
Round we glow like Pink Floyd on repeat repeat repeat
And the repetition of pasts will find no golden key to now and YES!
is just another affirmation ,unemployed nonetheless,....
