THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem
Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?
HITCHHIKING WITH THIS PILLED OUT TRUCK DRIVER
WE KEPT TALKING FOR HOURS TO KEEP HIM
AWAKE
but were so happy when released/sure his
life was on a shortened leash
Time we hitchhiked a car,and the rope kept
breaking, until it was only a foot long
and we were driving down a hill towards a
one lane bridge, with a truck coming down the other hill
Happily ,that truck sped up and crossed the
thin bridge before we could collide
Like when my puny Volkswagon picked up
hitchhikers,and a red sports car
went through a STOP sign directly at us.We
were doomed!
Except the car behind us got angry at our
slow uphill speed, overtook and crashed .
Like every time saved by circumstance, with
no god to claim grace
and only luck to frustrate Destiny.Like
standing next to a murderer on the main street.
Like those angry drunk Irish poets who
punched out their audience.
Like the skin heads who beat up hippies in
Manchester after midnight
Like every thin time with no money and no
hope/saved by others
Like bending down to find actual money on
the ground.
Like losing everything /just to feel alive
again.
Like every secular miracle,every kindness
/act of goodwill
Every feather of every bird impels us all-to
learn to fly.Again..

EATING OURSELVES TO DEATH
WHEN THE
"PROGRESSIVE"DEMOCRATS
somehow"overlooked"the poetry and music
component of their program
and filled their borrowed Gatsby stage with
endless Democrat candidates
i left .The band came on and lifted the
volume.No one danced.
I had wanted to share Carl Sandburg ,Walt
Whitman ,Susan Bright and Albert Huffstickler
and what they added to little Austin. But
The Mayor was there ,and Jim Hightower
and their speeches and time meant elections
were in the air,and they were talking
only to activists and potential
demographics. So i ate the last pizza slice ,drove home
and opened up the TRIPLE CHOCOLATE.Empty
carton later(a metaphor for political promises)
i dwelt upon the best and brightest
moment-when my friends asked me why no poetry?
and i pointed to the band, and they were
prepared to fight for poetry to be heard
But peace is rarely found in politics, and
poetry means pacifist
So i ate my triple chocolate, and opened my
heart to new art.

PLAYLIST: 20-05-18 – SHOW 259 – George Sanders
Strange Fruit is a unique two-hour radio show exploring the world of underground, strange and generally neglected music. All shows are themed and all shows set out to give the most hardened of sound-hounds some new delight to sample.
The show is also unique in providing homework for undergraduate students on North West Kent College’s Foundation Degree in Professional Writing (who dig up many of the odd facts featured in the links between tracks).
Neil Nixon, the founder and presenter of the show has released a book about rare albums for Gonzo Multimedia.
The show is broadcast on Miskin Radio every Sunday from 10-00-midnight.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?
Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
