Hi All,

What happens to time I ask myself!

Having had a patchy summer of concerts, which was supposed to give me time to finish all my unfinished projects, here I am getting ready for a very busy last few months of the year, with my studio still not finished and lots of unfinished songs…oh well! I did however have lots of time with my family and a holiday in Greece, so I mustn’t grumble.

I finally have finished copies of my Jazz / Big Band CD called “ Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me” (one of the song titles) which is released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on 25^th September. I have a TV show on the A.R.D Morning Show in Germany on Tuesday the 25^th September, to mark this occasion which I’m really looking forward to except for the fact I have to be at the studios at 4.00am!!! It will be live at 6 am and shown every hour until 9 am.

The CD will be released in England and the Benelux countries on the 22^nd October so look out for it. I believe it’s available on iTunes as we speak. I have a show with “The Lumberjacks”, a young Big Band from Göppingen on the 25^th of November. I’m really looking forward to performing the CD and other songs with them live, a quick rehearsal the other day was fantastic and lots of fun.

After our gig at the Masters Of Rock Antenne in Augsburg on the 6^th of October.

Mads, Gunnar, Frank, Zsolt and I begin our German tour in Berlin on the 11^th of October. All the way through the summer we were all saying how much we were looking forward to this, so we could really stretch ourselves, have some fun and get that “ real live band” feeling that only touring can give a us. As always I’m looking forward to playing some new songs and resurrecting some old favourites, while retaining the basis of our show. Our aim for this tour is to never play the same set 2 nights in a row; let’s see how we do eh!  All the tour dates and venues are here on the website and we look forward to seeing you all somewhere along the way. Special greeting and best wishes go out to our friends Kath and Paul Bearfield, and we look forward to seeing you both on the tour.

Well, I’m off to do some practice, write some lyrics, tidy up the studio, but first a cup of tea!

While the name Chris Thompson may not ring a bell straight away, his voice will. We have all heard him countless times on the radio and our stereo’s singing such classic hits as “The Mighty Quinn”, “Spirits In The Night” and the infamous “Blinded By The Light”. Yes, he was the voice of Manfred Mann’s Earthband.

This triple Live 2CD/1DVD package is filled with some killer music. The aforementioned songs are included as is the popular “Runner” and “If You Remember Me”. Chris’ voice isn’t what it used to be but he still sounds great and adds a less polished and grittier aspect to the songs. Hearing them like this is refreshing as it is more real. This triple disc set is excellent and filled with old familiar tunes and some unfamiliar ones that are equally as good and in some instances even better. All 3 discs are enjoyable, even the DVD despite the video quality. While the quality is good it is not up to the HD standards that we have all become accustomed to watching. The somewhat small stage setup seems a little cramped at times and the band would benefit from a bit larger one. The entire performance is more like a club show rather than an arena. It is more of an intimate show with the crowd right there in the band’s faces.

All in all this is a great set with some excellent tunes that we are all familiar with plus some. The DVD is enjoyable but a little too short. It’s good to Chris still out there performing and giving it his all. You can see that this is what he loves doing.

While I was pootling about on the Internet the other night, I found this rather spiffing performance by our very own Chris Thompson together with "The Soulmates". Live on "50 Jahre Rock" 2005. My very limited knowledge of the German language leads me to suspect that this was some sort of celebration showcasing the half century since Elvis first did his inimatable thing on Sun Records. But I may be completely wrong. Ask Rob Ayling, he will sadly confirm that I am not quite infallible..

CHRIS THOMPSON: Dutch review

What is the reason that as a former singer of Manfred Mann's Earth Band albums, an opinion which consists mainly of compositions of that band?Would not it be better to do that as a member of that band? Or do they want you no longer have? Manfred Mann has found a better singer? Chris Thompson was indeed 25 years - until the late 90 - the voice of MMEB and sang on hits like "Blinded by the Light," "Spirits in the Night 'and' Mighty Quinn 'and strong albums like "The Watch" and "The Roaring Silence '. A distinctive, powerful and amazing voice that will surely have contributed to that success. That voice is now some wear. Thompson misses at a later age strength to the vocal quality of yesteryear to get. All that shimmers typical sound of the man's vocal cords in two concerts this course there often through. But less obvious is obvious. Thompson is during these concerts - "Berlin Live 'on 2CD and' The Aschaffenburg Remains' is displayed on DVD - assisted by a band of Norwegian musicians unfamiliar to me. They stand their ground but lack the flair and lived of these progressive rock with a complexion needs. A few decades along the stages, playing with various artists and some alcohol and drugs to help sometimes.It sounds good and it turns neatly inside the lines.


Nevertheless there is in these performances from 2011 enough to enjoy.An important part of the famous MMEB oeuvre comes along and these compositions are still as a house, the dedication is commendable and the audience enthusiastic. A big name like Thompson can indeed long continue to support. I always was curious if the illustrious Manfred Mann hears this and what he thinks of it? The DVD recording is okay, gives a good picture of what is in various places on stage and the sound is reasonably good.There are also recordings added by fans who are less quality of course but their charm and the concert from the perspective of the public show. I have entertained me with the DVD, though it is an example of one look and then probably never again. As so often with image recordings of concerts.Thompson also requires a living will and I think emotionally difficult to detach from the music scene. However, these expenses add little or nothing to what is already there. And that which is already MMEB material, is of a much higher quality and is therefore also preferred. Chris Thompson is one of those people who has helped shape the history of rock music and you could definitely say he’s one of the “voices of rock”, with his distinctive vocal style, which has thrilled us on albums by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Gary Moore, Jeff Wayne, Mike Oldfield, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Alan Parsons, Starship and so on.

After leaving Manfred Mann’s Earth Band he has embarked on a successful solo career, which sees him mostly touring Germany and Scandinavia, places where classic rock acts are still thriving when it comes to live performances. From one such tour comes his latest live album, Berlin Live & Live at the Colos-saal, a 2CD/DVD combo, which is a mouth-watering prospect for any Chris Thompson fan.

As Chris is best remembered for his role as Manfred Mann Earth Band singer and that's what the fans still want to hear, we naturally find that the track list is dominated by MMEB material. But that's okay, the band puts its own slant on things and aren't afraid to branch out in directions that MMEB didn't go. Don't get me wrong, the songs are still recognisable, but there's enough going on to give the songs a new shine. And Chris and the band sure know how to polish these already pretty flawless jewels.

Besides the MMEB material, which is a must at Chris Thompson shows these days, a few nice surprises also tickle our adventurous nerves. We have some of Chris’s solo songs, but the greatest surprise comes in the form of You’re the Voice, a song which Chris co-wrote for John Farham’s huge hit. We were supposedly also close to getting something off War of the Worlds, with which Chris had toured recently, but it was unfortunately not included (or maybe not even performed). Despite getting 2 CDs and 1 DVD, there is of course still not enough room to capture even a fragment of this man’s collaborations.

The band is in full flight on the whole album. It’s no surprise really, they’ve been together for a while now. They bring a breath of fresh air to all the songs and offer Chris a variety of choices. Chris sounds really good, though it has to be said that his voice has lost some of its power, but he still remains totally convincing in his delivery and performance. Most of all, the band seems to be enjoying itself and Chris still looks like he loves being on stage, even after all these years.

This is a must document for true Chris Thompson fans. If you’re a fan of MMEB, this might actually be good value for money because you get a ton of MMEB music and it’s also an opportunity to investigate Chris’s other projects.

CHRIS THOMPSON BELGIAN REVIEW

First of all dear readers, this brief history and to get into the best possible conditions to absorb a new box stuffed to the brim of rock music  ! For this case will contain a total of two CD "Live" as well as a DVD also from a stage performance. Chris Thompson for many years was the vocalist and, incidentally, the second guitarist of the legendary Manfred Mann . In reality, it is current at a reunion of the 70 that Chris will incorporate a first group to work from 1975 to 1987. At that time, the group, who had started his career in 1962, was renamed Manfred Mann's Earth Band . Subsequently, our singer again reinstate the adventure of 1992 to early 2000. He still occasionally work with other group members, to serve his own solo career with nearly a dozen albums and, finally, work with many great artists such as Elton John, Steve Hackett, Gary Moore or Mike Oldfield. Suffice to say that this gentleman has a bottle and a sacred experience behind him  !

Therefore, we enter into the heart of the matter, if you wish, from the beginning with the first slice of a very good technical level and, above all, excellent grip that its performance in public. As described in the document that accompanies this package, this package is a mixture of a concert for Radio Berlin and transmitted as such in its entirety in order to satisfy the fans. Originally developed to shows from the 17th and January 18th, 2011 at Colos-Saal Aschaffenburg Radio Berlin, the two wafers sonic include not less than 20 songs among which we find the great classics of Manfred Mann, but also several major " classic-rock "within the meaning of the word  ! All this is beautifully interpreted for its "Live" which will not suffer any weakness. Note a good public presence and a great presence in our frontman.Chris Thompson is undoubtedly a very great singer, but also an excellent guitarist.For the rest of the lineup, we épinglera delivery Mads Eriksen on the guitar, Gunnar Bjelland on keyboards, Frank Hovland on bass, and of gentlemen Steinar Krokstad Zsolt Meszaros for drums and percussion, and finally the presence of Dirk Naessens who held the violin. In this superb concert, we will cheerfully of classic-rock to progressive rock with several trips to the blues and jazz. Rebelote with the DVD which will include seven compositions plus 4 bonus and the interview of each musician. Here, the image will partner with her ​​for us to travel in the rock world.The public course will provide a large attendance at the event with several passages in the final form of jam sessions and, again, a major technical level. Do not forget the great heat that will emerge on stage  ! What about this set that is truly a feast for all lovers of good rock, but also to a wider audience, because here the subject is of great artistic and musical. CHRIS THOMPSON: A message from...

I have been remiss! I had no idea that Chris Thompson's website had been given a revamp, or - indeed - that there was a new personal message from Chris on it. All you CT fans out there, please forgive me. So, six weeks late, here it is...

Dear All,

Well the new web site is up, (thank you Michael and Joe) so I guess it’s time for a new message!

Finally the CD / DVD project from Berlin and Aschaffenburg is released and should now be available in stores. It’s 2 live CDs from a Berlin Radio show plus a DVD of 7 songs from Aschaffenburg and 4 songs from Dexheim. I think it’s a great representation of our current “Live Show” with Mads, Frank, Gunnar and Zsolt. It took such a long time to get it finished and mixed, that in putting the liner notes and CD information together, the song list for the Berlin concert was copied from the original set list. I didn’t spot this, so once again Demolition Man appears as part of the concert, but because of the Radio program time constraints, at the last minute we didn’t play it. Sorry about that!

Anyway after much trial and tribulation it is out, so I hope you enjoy it. Of course as it was recorded early 2011, we are already playing new and different songs, in fact our aim now is to never play the same show twice, so if you want to see the new songs you’ll have to join us on our October tour. The dates for this are up on our gig page. We are all looking forward to it.

Since I wrote last, I have been doing a variety of things.

Putting the finishing touches to my mystery project, the very different one, by recording an original song and an unoriginal song! It is all mixed now and ready to go. As we recorded new tracks, it will now be released in August. I did a photo shoot for the front cover yesterday, so apart from choosing a photo and designing the booklet everything is completed. I am really excited by this one.

Chris Thompson's majestic and soulful vocals have been entertaining classic rock fans now for almost four decades, and thankfully he's showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Chris' rise to worldwide prominence began in the mid 70's when he took over the front man duties for Manfred Mann's Earth Band, a gig which he held off and on well into the 90's. While primarily known as the voice behind the signature Earth Band classics "Blinded By The Light", "Davey's On The Road Again" and "Runner", to name just a few, Chris has been diligently carving out his own identity as a solo artist in the years following his departure from the band. In fact he's assembled quite a formidable band of his own, which includes his close collaborator, Norwegian guitar wizard Mads Eriksen.

These days the British born, New Zealand raised Thompson makes his home in Belgium and continues to tour Europe with his band, performing his own material right alongside a wide variety of material that he helped make famous from the Earth Band's back catalogue. His latest release is a fantastic new CD / DVD package that combines a live radio concert along with a show that was filmed in Aschaffenburg Germany. However, the concert film was not without its problems, as technical difficulties meant that much of the material had to be scrapped. Undaunted Chris decided to release the show and along with the radio concert, which is featured on the CD portion, together makes one hell of a great package for his fans.

Ryan: This is a fantastic new DVD / CD collection that you've just released. The DVD portion of the package was filmed in Aschaffenburg Germany, and I know that things didn't go originally as planned, as you weren't able to present the whole concert due to technical issues. What's interesting though is that rather than scrap the whole project, you decided to release the material that was salvageable. Great idea, but can you tell me why you decided to do this?

Chris: Well like I said in the liner notes, I think anyone else would have given up. Everybody had put so much effort into it that I thought it would be just stupid to let it die without any of it seeing the light of day. As there were seven tracks that were in order, I thought I might as well just do that, but we came up with lots of different plans to include videos and other bits. It just came to the point where once we'd done the live CD in Berlin and we'd gotten permission to use that, I thought that we just needed to give everybody a taste of what we do video wise, and then we'll just do something like that again in the near future. So that's the real reason behind it. Then the other part of it is we played in Dexheim, and I had a look at that stuff and thought that it kind of had the hits on it, so I thought that it made sense to do something at least.

What he did manage to save looks and sounds great as Chris and his band are firing on all cylinders by tearing through seven tracks from his solo career, as well as a couple of Manfred classics. It's a case of quality winning out over quantity here as the viewer gets a tease of what could have been had the show managed to have gone off without a hitch. To round out the DVD , there are some nice bonus features tacked on at the end that includes interviews with each band member, as well as some fan shot footage, which helps to fill in the some of the missing pieces.

The CD portion of the package, a live out to radio concert, recorded six months later, gives the listener a pretty good idea of what Thompson and his band delivers on a nightly basis. From the opening notes of Dylan's "Father of Day", first covered back in '72 on the Earth Band's Solar Fire album, through to the fan favorite "Questions" off of The Roaring Silence, everything in between is a varied mix of Thompson's back catalogue of work ("Hot Summer Nights", "If You Remember Me" etc...) coupled with heaping amounts of Earth Band material. Chris has never sounded better as he leads the troops through cracking renditions of Earth Band classics, "Spirits In The Night", "Blinded By The Light", "Don't Kill It Carol" and "Runner".

All in all this is a superb package that diehard fans of Chris and the Earth Band are definitely going to want to add to their collections. But more importantly, these concerts stand as a true testament to the unlimited talents and unyielding spirit of one of classic rock's most unique and original sounding voices.

Most of you classic rock fans will surely remember Chris Thompson as the lead singer of Manfred Mann's Earthband for many years throughout the 1970's and early '80s. Since leaving the Earthband, Thompson has mostly worked on a solo career , performing not only his solo hits but also some of the legendary songs from his time spent with Mann. Berlin Live & Live at the Colos-saal is a 2CD & bonus DVD set, one show recorded for Berlin radio (audio only) and another filmed at the Colos-saal, both in 2011. Joining Thompson were guitarist Mads Eriksen, keyboard player Gunnar Bjelland, bass player Frank Hovland , and drummer Zsolt Meszaros (drummer Steinar Krokstad plays on the DVD, as does guest violinist Dirk Naessens).

Longtime fans will be happy to know that Thompson still sounds great all these years later, his voice holding up well over the years and still energetic on classics like "Father of Day", "Spirits in the Night", "Don't Kill It Carol", "Blinded By the Light", "Demolition Man", "Questions", and of course the legendary "Mighty Quinn". The band is red hot throughout, delivering the goods in a big way on the harder rockers like "Martha's Madman" and "Whole Lot to Give", especially Eriksen who is quite a capable guitar player, ripping out plenty of crunchy riffs and flashy solos on these classic songs. Bjelland too impresses, especially on the hard rocking, prog rock version of "Runner", as he adds in plenty of forceful organ passages.

On the night the DVD was to be filmed at the Colos-saal in Aschaffenburg, there were all sorts of technical problems resulting in a good portion of the recordings unusable, but Thompson and his crew have salvaged a handful of songs from that evening and presented it here for the fans. What was usable is quite good, one of the highlights being the excellent new song "Land of the Long White Cloud", featuring a scorching solo from Eriksen, and the upbeat "Demolition Man", featuring a killer vocal from Thompson. Toss in some band interviews and fan shot footage, and you have a nice little bonus DVD in this jam packed live set.

Yep, Chris Thompson still has it folks, so if you've been itching to hear his superb vocals on new versions of classic Earthband material, make sure you check this hot live set out.

"Berlin Live Aschaffenberg & The Remains - Live At The Colos-Saal" by Chris Thompson is a nice looking box containing two CDs and a DVD.

All the researchers among us who evince some interest in the career of Manfred Mann should ever the name of Chris Thompson bumped.
In 1972 Manfred Mann Earth Band with vocalist Mick Rogers. When Mick left the group in October 1976 he was replaced by Chris Thompson, who in turn, Manfred Mann's Earth Band remained until 1987. In February 1977, adorned 'Blinded By The Light' at the first spot of the Billboard Hot 100. There were a few squatters of Manfred Mann's Earth Band with Chris Thompson on vocals, like "Davy's On The Road Again ',' Do not Kill It, Carol and Bob Dylan song 'You Angel You'.
All these songs live plus revivals of "Spirit In The Night ',' Blinded By The Light 'and' Mighty Quinn 'can be found on' Live Berlin. The last three titles mentioned you as a link to Manfred Mann considered, but for clarity, the original recordings was ever completed by the lead vocals Mick Rogers and Mike d'Abo.
I have not the least objection to Chris Thompson here now to those days raked back, because he does this in a sublime way. The two CDs 'Berlin Live' captivate from beginning to end and not least by the Advisory Board with Mads Eriksen (guitar), Gunnar Bjelland (keyboards), Frank Hovland (bass) and Zsolt Meszaros (drums).
CD1 and CD2 were recorded live in the studios of Radio Berlin (88.8 MHz). Besides all the aforementioned songs jump 'Father Of Day' and the unadulterated blues' Whole Lot To Give "(with Dirk Naessens on violin) above it. The raw rocker "Do not Kill It, Carol" is used here in a refreshing bath submerged.

The accompanying DVD is even better. The picture quality is excellent thanks to the lighting of the stage, a feast for the eyes. Chris Thompson looks like a retired schoolteacher who has grown considerably through his hair, but he does give a wonderful road show with highlights including "Demolition Man" and an almost unrecognizable subdued version of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song'.
Just before the action were Chris Thompson and the band members interviewed by Jon Kirkman and this interview was linked to the DVD as a bonus.
For me there is still a little unclear. The inlay booklet with the DVD as a drummer Steinar Krokstad mentioned, while the disc itself Zsolt Meszaros gets the credit assigned.

At the same inlay booklet focuses Chris Thompson into 'The wonderful audience at the Colos-Saal "with the words" Thank you for the fantastic night (18.01.11), followed by a list of all names of those on the fateful night in the audience were. I do not think this ever happened. A precedent spoken!

"Berlin Live Aschaffenberg & The Remains - Live At The Colos-Saal" is an ideal opportunity for Chris Thompson to rediscover and understand why Manfred Mann in the past always a singer with a rasp of a voice has chosen.

Winston: When we can feature bands like Toto, Uriah Heep and other lighter rock bands in this theatre we too can report about a band like Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Indeed not that obvious but still...why not? Chris Thompson is the most known singer from the band and off his hand arrives a double live album + DVD at our headquarters. The CD recordings are recorded in January 2011 for Radio Berlin (hence the title) and the DVD was filmed in the room of Aschaffenburg Colos. Something went wrong with filming, hence the subtitle 'The Remains Aschaffenburg’. Only seven numbers were good enough for use, due to technical breakdowns. Thompson, now in his sixties, needs a little a warm up but once strengthened up he does some fine singing on both his new solo material and classic MME tracks. And you have to confess, when you hear on the radio the famous songs' Mighty Quinn', 'Blinded By The Light' and 'Davy's On The Road Again’ singing along is almost programmed. You can hear how the audience is carried along by the charming Thompson and the interaction between band and audience is clear. Thompson mentions in the credits that he hopes for a new opportunity to film his band properly for a DVD and I hope he will.

His name says you maybe nothing, but his voice, you have certainly already heard on almost all the hits of the group Manfred Mann's Earth Band. We are talking about the English singer and guitarist Chris Thompson in March this year its 65th anniversary and now enjoy the flowers is put through the release of a live CD & DVD box. On the DVD you can see a live recording of the action that he is 17 and 18 January 2011 brought in the "Colos-Saal" Aschaffenburg in Germany. In the recordings of that concert, there were problems with the digital audio recording so that only the 7 remaining tracks on this DVD remained. The curriculum Chris Thompson is truly brilliant. Known primarily for his work in Manfred Mann's Earthband, this singer and guitarist born in the UK participated in the last 40 years in some of the most important rock releases. Among many other more obscure names, citaríamos only its shares on albums by Elton John, Starship, Gary Moore, Alan Parsons, Bonnie Tyler, Steve Hackett and Mike Oldfield. In between there are still considering the various entries in his own name. This work represents a Berlin Live concert Chris Thompson and his band did in the German city for Radio Berlin 88.8, the 4th of June 2011 and represent faithfully that which at the time of that radio listeners could hear. Here 40 years of hits parade of Manfred Mann's Earthband like You Angel You, Spirits In The Night, Mighty Quinn, Davy's On The Road, Do not Kill It Carol or Blinded By The Light, this taken from his first recording with the legendary British progressive rock band, Roaring Silence, dated 1976. In between is the introduction of some themes that are part of their repertoire on their own behalf. For those who usually accompanies no surprise that name will appear in the alignment. However, this is a job, especially the younger ones should hear. A strong foundation of blues rock and hard rock injected some details of progressive rock, psychedelia and funk to make this work and made this something truly memorable concert. All the magic of the blues / hard rock seventies there is a sensational start in Hammond to mark your presence very strongly and end up on harmonica, passing the long solos with that sensitivity so typical of the time. As a bonus, this album comes with a DVD that portrays the provision live in Aschaffenburg and Dexheim, also in Germany a few months earlier. Highly recommended for fans of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple (and of course Earthband Manfred Mann's Chris Thompson and himself) that should not, for nothing, to lose this gem!

Fans of legendary British rock band Manfred Mann will immediately recognize Chris Thompson’s voice and many of the songs included in this triple set. Thompson delivers a passionate and memorable collection of songs backed by an excellent rock band.

Even though the Manfred Mann that I liked was the progressive rock-era version, the band was also known for delivering great rock songs and some radio hits. Some of the most recognizable featured in this live set are ‘Blinded By The Light’, ‘You Angel You’, ‘Spirits In The Night’, ‘Don’t Kill It Carol’ and ‘Mighty Quinn’.

Berlin Live & Live At The Colos-Saal contains two CDs and a bonus DVD. It is a combination of a live radio concert and a previous rehearsal and concert that took place in Aschaffenburg. The Aschaffenburg material was retrieved from a completely concert film and recording and is included as a bonus as the producers felt that the salvaged footage expressed the enjoyment of the concert. The Berlin concert remains just as it came from the radio transmission and as such is the complete concert as fans heard it at the concert and also on the radio broadcast.

Born in the UK, Thompson grew up in New Zealand. He returned to the UK in 1973. He became Manfred Mann’s Earthband’s vocalist after Mick Rogers left the band. His voice first appeared on the 1976 Roaring Silence album which contained the hit single ‘Blinded By The Light.’

Thompson appeared on Jeff Wayne’s concept album War of the Worlds recording the track “Thunder Child” which was also a UK hit song. Thompson recorded the Manfred Mann’s Earthband LPs Watch and Angel Station, which featured the hit singles ‘Davy’s On The Road Again’, ‘Mighty Quinn’, ‘Don’t Kill It Carol’ and ‘You Angel You.’

Chris is backed by a full band which includes Mads Eriksen on guitar; Frank Hovland on bass, backing vocals; Gunnar Bjelland on keyboards; with Szolt Meszaros on drums for the Berlin concert and Steinar Krokstad as drummer on the Aschaffenburg material.

Blinding and spiritual, one of the best British singers finally delivers a full-blooded, heavy-on-the-hits concert album.

You can't go wrong with Chris Thompson: the likes of QUEEN know it too well when inviting the man to back them, and duetting with Sarah Brightman was no mean feat either. Quite simply, the man has The Voice, and that's the title of a song he co-wrote for John Farnham and gloriously reclaims here, on German radio concert which is spread over two discs and has a DVD companion. And it's only one of surprises strewn across the set showcasing many of Thompson's successes yet relying reasonably on the hits Chris notched in the company of Manfred Mann.

They're all there, from "Father Of Day, Father Of Night" to "Questions", through "Blinded By The Light" and "Spirits In The Night" and even the brilliant "Don't Kill It Carol" which the veteran didn't sing a lead on originally - all done with Thompson's charm and looseness that was sometimes missing from his old band's performances. With Norwegian players behind him now to unleash many a pleasant passage, like in "Runner", it's all about the song, not arrangement, and Chris takes off harking back to his New Zealand roots in the tribal groove of "Land Of The Long White Cloud" and gets on the edge in the funky "Wasting Time" from his latest studio work - laid down a decade before this 2011 recording. The most welcome inclusions, though, are the swaying, harmonica-oiled blues "Whole Lot To Give" from his collaboration with Mads Eriksen who has a solo spot here, and a graceful, breezy version of "Hot Summer Night" from the singer's underrated late '70s project NIGHT. Still, the emotional zenith comes down not with "If You Remember Me", a bit too saccharine ballad, but with the bare-bones "For You", a measure of the artist's dedication to his audience who's thanked, each one by name, in the booklet.
One fantastic concert - long overdue and all the better for it.

Chris Thompson? Who is he? The less oriented to say that for sure you have heard his voice many times, even listening to the radio and zaśpiewanego his timeless hit "Blinded By The Light" Manfred Mann's group Earthband. Not only does this hit has made ​​it his "two cents". "Spirits In The Night", "Mighty Quinn", "You Angel You", "Do not Kill It Carol" and "Davy's On The Road" - this is only the first bank of the examples provided by the Mannfreda Mann and a team of great hits. It's bloated tomiszcze, which consists of two CDs and a DVD disc, is a fantastic concert review of his work and still przeogromnych possible stage. The main part of the material contained on this album is Thompson's performance, accompanied by a team in the Berlin Radio 88.8FM June 4, 2011 year. The two silver discs CD is a complete record of the two-hour concert presented reportedly on a scale of 1:1, with no overtime and additions. Listen to this great. Repertoire, performance, live audience's reaction - it all adds up to a really great musical feast, which we can experience hearing these great songs performed. 12-minute version of "Blinded By The Light" simply crushes. Games played as an encore, "For You" and "Questions" are harming. But earlier, before them, we have a real festival of the best songs from the rich repertoire of Thompson and Mann's Earthband Mannfred.
Complementing this radio show is a visual record of the concert pieces in January 2011 in the Colos-Saal in Aschaffenburg.Unfortunately, technical problems prevented the documentation of this performance as a whole. On the DVD so we get only 7 songs "rescued" by technicians treatments (such as "Do not Kill It Carol", "Martha's Madman" and "Whole Lot To Give"), plus a few recordings registered by the fans, plus interviews with Thompson and members of his team, which was provided just before the show in Aschaffenburg.

What else can I say about this release? Just because I recommend it with all my heart - that's for sure. And properly so, because the rest is music. Thompson's music and voice speak for themselves. Speak for themselves. Arms without any error. Probably because we are dealing with the professionalism of the highest quality. Let us at the end of the names of the musicians who accompanied this great singer's concert in the implementation of the project. The Mads Eriksen plays guitars, keyboards Gunnar Bjelland, Frank Hovland on bass, and drums Zsolt Meszaros (in the Berlin radio) and Steinar Krokstad (in Aschaffenburg).
