Beginning fifty thousand years ago,across a land bridge
that allowed our Indigenous peoples passage
Europeans-Dutch,French,Spanish visited
but the English took "possession"in 1788.
For a long time,English migrants were given "ten pound fares"
A WHITE AUSTRALIA Policy included a literacy and history test
that few Chinese or Africans could pass.Post WW2,European migrants
(Italian,Greek,Yugoslav)came to work on hydro-electric projects etc
It took the failure of the Vietnam War to see Asian faces on Oz streets.
Now,migration is restricted.Refugees are interned.Under awful conditions.
Riots have broken out on Christmas Island,Nauru and Manus Island.
This situation is hidden from every day Australians.It took a top-seeded tennis player
to place this issue on the front page.Still unresolved.Like deaths in detention..
