Can you imagine a program in one of the Polish
television stations (and it does not matter whether public or private) that
would result in, say, Józef Skrzek of SBB and its guests, which would carry out
interviews and with them improwizowałby live and played their greatest hits were
the greatest Polish Rockers?
Such a
program in 1982-83 in the Channel 4 were British. It was called 'Gas Tank', and the hosts
were Rick
Wakeman - fresh after leaving the Yes and Tony Ashton -
the leader of the formation of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke and then frequent
collaborator George Harrison, and Mr Ian Paice'a and Jon Lord with Deep
Purple. In a relaxed atmosphere in
the studio with built bar with a small audience sitting at tables, talking with
their invited guests, and then they play them live impromptu
mini-concerts. On television, it
appeared 6 episodes cycle 'Gas Tank', which was attended by Ian Paice, Rick Partiff, Andy Fairweather Low,
John Entwistle, Godley and Creme, Roy Wood, Eric Burdon, Suzy Quatro, Phil
Lynott and Steve Hackett. Our
favorite Steve even appeared in two sections: in the sixth, when he performed
with Rick Wakeman his famous "Camino Royale" and impromptu jam entitled
"Hackett's Bogie" and the fourth, in which the harmonica accompanied by Suzie
Quatro in its two songs "My Babe" and "CC Rider".
Why would
you even write about the television series, the Polish viewers never got a
chance to see? Well, recently
released a publication entitled "Rick Wakeman & Tony Ashton present: Gas
Tank," which is a record the audio of this cycle. It completely omitted from the verbal part, the
interviews with invited musicians, and three silver discs pomieszczono a total
of about three hours of music, which is a physical trace of the unique, and in
some circles, considered today the cult music show on Channel
4.
The album
will surely be a nice souvenir, especially for British viewers and listeners,
detained during a fragment of history, where the stars of the stage and gave
great artists of rock to get to know a slightly different, more 'private'
side. Turned out to be not only
unattainable rock stars, but equal wykonywującymi guests in casual and laid
back, its flagship club atmosphere works, which, inevitably, then took on a
whole new dimension. Many of them,
unfortunately, no longer in this world (he died in 2001, also co-host of the
program, Tony Ashton). They left
behind them a unique recordings, which, thanks to the album "Gas Tank" is not
only a reminder of the great figures in the history of British rock, but - in a
more general sense - a fragment of the great rock heritage, which left
behind.
It is a pity
that this is not my album comes with a richer and more detailed
booklet. It could be - especially
for customers like us who have never had the possibility of watching the
television series - a wonderful guide and source of information about invited to
'Gas Tank' guests. And
so, with only a few random photographs and a list posted on wylistowanym three
silver discs tracks, it makes an impression as if the matter participants 'Gas
Tank' Dirty treated. Bit of a
shame. But it should reach for this
historic release.
