(HOUSTON, TX)– As odd as it might sound, “Star Trek” legend William Shatner recently released a star-studded progressive-rock concept album titled “Ponder the Mystery” that features 15 original songs he co-wrote with former Yes guitarist Billy Sherwood. The record tells the existential story of a depressed man who contemplates various aspects of life over the course of an afternoon and an evening.
Shatner discusses coming up with the various themes on which to base the album’s songs:
“I’ll write a song about despair, I’ll write a song about twilight, about sunset, about the sounds of the night. And, that seemed to work and I was able to extract enough material that Billy Sherwood then put into music. And we found all these marvelous musicians, and they came aboard and they’ve given a distinctive sound to each of the songs. I think it’s a lovely album”.
