KEV ROWLAND'S NEW BOOK

Well, I have been promising/threatening this for a long time, but the first volume of my three books on the underground progressive scene between 1991 and 2006 has finally been released by Gonzo Media. Together, the three books contain all my progressive demo/CD/Video/DVD and gig reviews from that period, as well as all the progressive interviews I undertook. Volume 1 is now available through Amazon : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Progressive-Underground-One-Kev-Rowland/dp/1908728841/, and contains all my demo/CD reviews from A-H. Volume 2 will contain all my demo/CD reviews from I-S, with the final volume containing T-Z, plus DVD/Video/live reviews and interviews. All three volumes are being released by Gonzo Media this year, and I firmly believe there has not been another series like it, containing reviews which were written at the time by someone close to the scene, instead of looking back into it from the present day. Each volume is approximately 300 pages long, and also contains the artwork for each release, including the demo tapes!

Here is the list of artists reviewed in this volume, many multiple times:-

Attached is the press release, along with the cover art, and I would appreciate it if you are able to assist in publicising this further to get it in front of all those who would be interested if they only knew about it. Over the years I have reviewed countless thousands of albums, trying to get publicity for wonderful music which many knew nothing about, so now I am asking if you can do the same for me. To those of you who run PR companies, I am afraid I am unable to pay you to send this out on your normal mailing lists, but if I have been useful to you in the past then it would be greatly appreciated.

My thanks go to Jon Downes at Gonzo Media for pushing me to get these finalised, and to incredible artist Martin Springett who designed the covers for all three. Also, Volume 1 has a foreword by Stu Nicholson plus nice comments on the rear from Greg Spawton and Clive Nolan. I am happy to say I have been friends with all three of these guys for some 25 years now, where has the time gone? Volume 2 is currently with Gonzo for final checks, and has a foreword by Mark Colton and comments from Nick Barrett and Martin Orford, while Volume 3 will also be out later this year with a foreword by Artur Chachlowski and comments from Gary Chandler, John Dexter Jones and Steve Paine.

I am aware some of you may wish to resell this through your own sites as well – if that is the case please contact Jon Downes at gonzo@cfz.org.uk and he will be more than happy to assist with trade pricing etc.

Many people thought this day would never come, probably including me, but at long last the first one is out there, the second is finished and the third just needs the artwork inserting and proofing. It has been an epic piece of work, some half a million words had to be captured digitally, but finally, it is done. I hope you like it

Kev

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
