Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! YOU HAVE CHANGED,AND A NEW YOU HAS EMERGED
Patterns of the past no longer fit(like dresses/fashions/foibles-
we grow out of youth and mature /enough to see both stages in perspective.
Young YOU wants to continue the party.NOW YOU wants to sleep in.
YOUNG YOU repeats what gave pleasure once.NEW YOU finds new tracks to wander
Clash of time and space .Priorities and allocation of energies.Only one will win.
Singing?or drawing?Painting?or dancing?Passions fluctuate,and the fickle public
only wants to buy the FAMILIAR,packaged into YOUNG YOU.Like FAT ELVIS
was never seen on American stamps-but THIN ELVIS was..Myth over fact.
Market over magic.You may wish to live on an island away from others-
but they pursue you to gain their satisfaction from knowing-they control your choices,
and you are their puppet.As long as the public pays-they pay for past familiars.
You repeat your hits and diminish creativity thereby..You may wish to be ANONYMOUS-
but even that has been copyrighted for Guy Fawkes,and politicians are clamoring for your HITS to be used for them.
