New Compilation Collects Sly Stone's Early Work With The Doo-Wop/Gospel Group, The Viscaynes

Before Sly Stone became a household name with his group The Family Stone and hit mega-stardom with the singles "Dance To The Music," "Everyday People" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)," he was a doo-wop and gospel singer. The Strictly Limited Edition Vinyl Record Company recently released a limited-edition blue, 180-gram audiophile vinyl collection of nineteen songs of Sly Stone performing with The Viscaynes. The new set title "Sly Before The Family Stone" features Sly's earliest work, prior to forming The Family Stone in 1966.

The set kicks off with gentle, R&B flow of "Honest," and a live cover version of "Searchin'," which has great energy and power as Sly works his magic on the crowd. The energy continues to flow through the swinging rhythm of "Ain't That Lovin' You Babe" and "Every Dog Has Its Day." Sly gets his swagger working on the funky beats of "Nerves," while the wonderful horns and swift  melody of "I Can't Turn You Loose" is pure early sixties pop magic. After The Viscaynes' sweet instrumental works "Watermelon Man" and "Rock Dirge," they finish off this new release with the rising emotions of "Life Of Fortune And Fame," which feels like the perfect segue to forming Sly And The Family Stone.
