"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
VERBAL TO VISUAL - GOBLE, CORREA,DORE,HOKUSAI
I am a radio,so War of the Worlds came alive (for me)off the text
when Mercury Theater's Orson Welles used documentary style reality broadcasting.
The movie posters carried original illustrations evocative and powerfilled.
Invasion was a war term then, and we were all post-war,fearing a new war.
"Aliens"also carried connotations of strange worlds(visual in the verbal)
You may prefer the horror of Goya,of Bosch,or Freud.Even Picasso's Guernica..
Illustrations amplify and define the message.Consider Alice in wonderland
and how the original illustrations overpower even a Disneification.
Correa had it right-horror before ALIENS of creatures tentacled and strong.
Advertising proves that image rules us-we prefer the cartoon to the book
And our eyes betray us-we are entranced by Cobb and Geiger-wherever we look..
