WE WERE IN BARCELONA
SIGN SHOWED-"GODDESS SCULPTURES"
We followed the way to a Gallery space
where we expected to see round fertile figures like the Venus de Willendorf
Not so! All these Goddess sculptures were small enough to be hand-held
Each had been excavated from many sites Sacred to the Goddess,
and were in a variety of shapes,forms,sizes..but all petite..
Female figures to be held close,not worshipped from a patriarchal distance.
Diverse, divergent,yet still holding those powerful images of women
so different from suffering male martyrs,saints,priests.No uniforms here!
Some were shaped like violins,many merely hinted at sexual organs..
Art had found her home with the powers of women.We learned,then left.
We will never be the same again..
