THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded.

It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

PETITION TO CONSCIOUSNESS
HISTORY BURPS.BOMBS KILL US
Peace is a process between us.Poetry is lingua lilting music
asking us to be/remain human.Food,not bombs.Love and compassion,not killing.
Certain words become bombs-"Terror"/"terrorists"-to use them is to abuse them
We are civilians.Human beings. We do not wish bombs among us/nor bombs above us
If we are in America,Syria,Iraq-makes no difference.In fact-we need gardens-for food-for refugees
We need shelter-for all-for those fleeing from bombs. We need to focus upon healing ,not hurting.
Flowers over flames.Kindness over killing.Loving and living over fearing and hating
You already know this. You live this. This is just a song asking for chorus. To save all of us
We need all of all of us.on one side-the living side-of the walls/wars/worlds between us

TRUST YOUR LOVE!..

Auburn: “Mixed Feelings” (2015) CD Review

http://michaelsmusiclog.blogspot.com/2015/08/auburn-mixed-feelings-2015-cd-review.html SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2015 Auburn: “Mixed Feelings” (2015) CD Review
Auburn is a British band that was formed by vocalist and guitarist Liz Lenten in 1999, then temporarily separated approximately a decade ago. They reunited in 2011, coming on strong, with Indian Summer the following year and then Nashville in 2014. And now they have a new CD, titled Mixed Feelings, on which the band dips into a good range of musical realms, including folk, blues, country and pop. All of the tracks are originals, written or co-written by Liz Lenten. This album, like the previous one, was recorded in Nashville, and features musicians from the area rather than the official band members from the UK. Those assembled for this release are all accomplished musicians, and most of them played on Nashville as well. The album was produced by Thomm Jutz, who also plays guitar on it (you might know Jutz from his work with Nanci Griffith).

Auburn kicks off the new album with its title track, “Mixed Feelings,” a tune which has a nice bluesy edge. There is also a cool rhythm on drums by Lynn Williams, and some good work on guitar. But it is Liz Lenten’s vocals which are the focus. Hers is a voice with a lot of character, a voice that seems to almost effortlessly draw in listeners. “I’ve got mixed feelings/Of love and hate/And I can’t function in this state.” “Mixed Feelings” was written by Liz Lenten and Mark Gustavina. And then “Love Lost Its Way” has something of a relaxed 1970s vibe, particularly on the chorus. “This time, I know/Love’s lost its way home/My tears roll slow/Love lost its way home.”

“Friends” is a sweet, gentle, warm song that I really love. The song is like a needed reminder that we’re not alone. But it refrains from making impossible promises, and so it has a beautiful honesty. Check out these lines: “I can’t mend your broken dreams/But I’m your friend/Won’t pretend that I can keep/The demons from your sleep/I’m your friend.” Wonderful, right? This is one of my favorites. And it’s followed by a delightful, quirky, humorous song, “Hell Hath No Fury.” This one is told from the perspective of an obsessed nut, beginning by saying “Sure we can just be friends,” but soon saying, “So you don’t forget me, I’ll keep messing with your head” and then “I’ll call every hour just to check that you’re all right/I’ll intercept your mail so no one else can write.” By the way, the line “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is a slight rewording of a line written by William Congreve (not William Shakespeare, as many believe). The line is, “Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned/Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.”

“Crystal Stairs” has a really cool, catchy groove, helping to make it another of this disc’s highlights. This one also features some good harmony vocals, as well as excellent work on guitar. I’m also really fond of “Out There,” mainly because of Liz Lenten’s vocals, as she sings, “You won’t be alone, I swear/You will find love out there/You don’t need to be scared/Of a new life out there.” “Wood For The Trees” is another favorite. It has such a delicious vibe, and I love Justin Moses’ work on both fiddle and banjo. “I know I’m losing you/I know you’re just moving through/You’re slipping fast/My time is past/Oh, I know I’m losing you.” This is an excellent song.

Musicians
Musicians on this release include Liz Lenten on lead vocals; Lynn Williams on drums; Mark Fain on bass; Justin Moses on fiddle, banjo and dobro; Barry Walsh on piano, Wurlitzer and organ; JT Brown on harmony vocals; and Thomm Jutz on guitar.

Mixed Feelings is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2015 through Bat Country and Scarlet Records.

THE RAZ BAND: Belgian Review

http://www.keysandchords.com/album-review-blog/the-raz-band-madison-park

The Raz band releases a new album out and it's not just become a new musical outing. Michael Raz Rescigno, frontman of the band, has can count on the outstanding talents of none other than former Badfinger's Joey Molland and drummer Joe Vitale which is also reflected in the work of Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Stills & Nash but also once the Eagles called on his drumsticks.

The band hails from Madison Park, New Jersey and Raz is the ideal place to grow and to get in touch with the sound of New Jersey. The Raz band consists of Michael Raz Rescigno (guitar, vocals), Jeff "Hutch" Hutchinson (drums, vocals), Jim Manzo (bass, vocals) and then you can have as Joey Molland (guitar, vocals) and Joe Vitale (drums , keyboards) bijrekenen.
The Raz Band may nevertheless be proud that they were already several times to support of Badfinger, Iron Butterfly, Bill Ward, etc ...

How should their music. Punk goes pop direction with a pinch of Beatles and Creedence Clearwater Revival some herbs, so you can best describe their work. Yet I also discovered some influences from Boston.

With this new album the band Raz presents a nice slice of poppy, a little rock flavored songs. Exactly sixteen songs the band got to convince several critics of their talents. With "$ 1.50 For Your Love," which is still peppered with strong guitar sound, the men are targeting a hitnotering. Hopefully they get plenty of airplay. Very commercial song. 'The Road of Love "goes in the same direction. This number, when it is released as a single, high tops just might be able to score. 'Say Ya Love Me' is a more stately fashion number which has slightly less pace but still has a strong baseline. Strong guitar outing but what axeman was here on duty, I must remain responsible for all statements given outside the aforementioned line-up also Gary Duncan, Rick Anderson and Frankie Joisne pulled the strings. On "Times Marches On 'leave Boston impacts notice again in the guitars while' You're My Love ', the acoustic guitar is plugged in and the band some slower. Strong gerockt is then "Start Your Engines" in which the piano can play a more prominent role. Stylistically goes' You Do not Know A Thing "Connecting to the previous track. With a child's voice, it's apparently a tradition again 't be put The Raz Band the last number in' Why Dogs Fly South "(also listen to the very last seconds of the end, if we are talking about the Beatles ... ). Certainly no deafening valve and here pops up a little the influence of Mark Wirtz (Excerpt From A Teenage Opera) and I am referring not only to the children's voices. The melody might run away themselves from Wirtz full 'Teenage Opera.
"Madison Park" is an excellent new work catch this band. There is more than enough variety in the songs and the whole production was realized by the special contribution of about Joey Molland and Joe Vitale.

"Madison Park 'is a strong release, but we can not ignore to hear some influences of Badfinger, Beatles and even Boston. That's no problem for as long as the end product is not a blueprint or thesis examples. Also I heard strong influences of Keith West (Excerpt Of A Teenage Opera "with Mark Wirtz ash producer) in the last song and That was a good idea. Strongly recommended album ...

Yes, “A Venture” from The Yes Album (1971): YESterdays

One of the shortest tracks on The Yes Album, Jon Anderson’s “A Venture” likely would have been a popular favorite on most progressive rock albums of that era — yet it’s is often overlooked by fans and even the band. On one level, it’s easy to see why this is so, as “A Venture” follows the concert favorite “I’ve Seen All Good People.” But ultimately this track’s fate points to how strong all the compositions on The Yes Album are.

Unlike “Clap,” which was truly solo a composition from Steve Howe (and played only by Howe), Anderson’s song is arranged by the band — giving “A Venture” a musical heft which matches its narrative heft.

Lyrically, Jon Anderson is much more direct than with his other contributions elsewhere on The Yes Album. He crafted these lyrics with a punchy rhythmic cadence which belies their simplicity.

OH PARIS, WHAT IS THE POINT?
IF YOU ARE NOT ART
if you have no free speech
nor freedom of assembly
then terror and fear are all there is
Police the dull power, army the punch fist
what difference are you to tourists?
who cannot use roads nor public transport
and your citizens?-how shall they move?
You ban those who wish to express
their desire to deal with climate change
If the people cannot gather/cannot speak
Will you only listen to "world leaders?"
This air is breathed by every body
We all fill up space-and time is all we have
Necessary energies need to be applied
via a democracy(not a police state)
Give back what you have taken.Liberty limited
is liberty lost.

CD Review: Auburn Continues To Grow With "Mixed Feelings" Album

From the U.K. comes the latest release from the acoustic, Americana, roots band Auburn entitled "Mixed Feelings." They are looking to build upon the success of their last album "Nashville" (Review: jpsmusicblog.blogspot.com) which debuted at #1 on the U.K. Americana music chart.

Their new twelve song release begins with the slow jaunt of the title-song, "Mixed Feelings" as lead singer Liz Lenten works her jazzy vocals into the song. The country-blues of "New Years Day" and the gentle touch of "Friends" is an awakening to the amazing songwriting within the band. They look to pick up the pace with "Hell Hath No Fury" as Liz' sweet vocals does not match the intensity of the song's quick, country tempo. It all comes together for the sweet country twang of "Out There" and "Wood For The Trees," before closing with the folk gem "Feel The Sun."Auburn are following the release of the their new album with some live shows beginning September 11th. AUBURN/Mixed Feelings

2. July 2015 - Auburn US review http://www.midwestrecord.com/MWR986.html

BAT COUNTRY - AUBURN/Mixed Feelings: Just like the Brits did to us with the blues, they’ve come to Nashville and recorded a killer set of Americana which they are now selling back to us. Getting away from the usual radio driven fodder, Auburn makes wonderfully atmospheric music that feels inspired by Ry Cooder but the lyrics are delivered in such a way that unless you really listen closely you miss how this stuff reads like the kind of country that first turned rappers on to Johnny Cash because he was such an OG. This set is equally strange and magical and sure to entice you in ways you never imagined. This is the kind of off the beaten track stuff boomers have been clamoring for. Killer stuff that really takes you by surprise.

YES ALUMNI: Alice Cooper joins Rick Wakeman to perform King Arthur album

Rick Wakeman will be joined by Alice Cooper next year to perform his 1975 LP 'The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table'.

The third studio album from the keyboard player - based on the legend of England's medieval monarch King Arthur - will be recreated live and in full with the help of the 'Poison' rocker, when the pair headline the first ever Stone Free Festival at The O2 in London in June 2016.

And the 66-year-old musician is delighted he's getting the opportunity to perform the concept album again.

He said: ''After the success of the 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth' shows last year, I'm over the moon to have the opportunity to perform 'King Arthur' for the first time since 1975 with an orchestra and choir. It's going to be wonderful.''

The iconic LP contained prog rock classics such as 'Arthur' and 'The Last Battle', which is over nine minutes long, and was written after Rick survived three heart attacks at the age of 25.
