Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
CHALLENGED
WHEN FOLK GATHER,ISSUES ARISE
Often depression,sadness,anger,guilt-all
unresolved
Tears in words, red fire songs-angst and
anger shooting sparks
So it was when he shared it is a year since
his daughter died
and every day he remembers her alive/and
cries
and it is a righteous wrath-@god and human
folly
that kills the best of us and ignores the
rest of us
When i attempt to placate via resolution-he
demands
"Exactly WHY would you think i wish to
resolve this loss?"
His fire is fed with pain and sorrow. His
tears are fuel.
He despairs that peace will ever rule this
world.
I wonder if his art abates his anger. He does
not believe it assists.
"But look @us(i protest)this makes a
difference to us!
And whether it does or not,he admits he is
here
in some tiny trust in truth-that it might
expiate sorrow
But then again-he will still be crying
tomorrow
