"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
WHEN IT FINALLY RAINED IN AUSTIN
BLACK DROPS PLOPPED ANGRILY UPON ROOF &CAR TOPS
Varicose vein lightning stitched a clouded sky
Rumbling grumbling stomach thunder regurgitated warnings
Our water barrels did not fill.Thirty raindrops on my windshield.
You need to know how 108 degree heat index our humidity rose
How barometric pressure coupled with pleas, prayers and petitions
finally unlocked the sky vault/to release..well,very little indeed
Enough for a puddle or three, and to wet my FREE LIBRARY
But not enough to wash any dirty dust from my old car
Now heat returns,to teach and to learn/this unnatural drought
Emotional rage.Road rage.Heat exhaustion hospitals.
Flowers wilt and weeds proliferate.Gardens give up the ghost.
They is nowhere else to go-so-beach,Lake,pool,Well,Spring-
any watercourse where we can chill out and calm down
Unlike this excited sky with its skittish intensities
We await relief.Water is what we need.Real rain,please...
