THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE SUN CAME OUT IN AUSTIN? I WAS DOWN WITH THE HOMELESS @ANOTHER MEMORIAL for a woman, frozen in our Austin cold. The crowd were young and caring. Many of them will soon be dispossessed-from their flooded apartments. Their landlords take no responsibility for flooded homes. They will evict when the premises are "not fit for occupation" Meanwhile,more homeless are hungry,cold,wet ,alone Saved by their peer groups and neighborhood initiatives Sharing of food ,water,shelter. So here we are underneath the HOMELESS MEMORIAL TREE where each year they read the names of those 200 who died on Austin Streets this year. More names will be added. More bodies uncovered. Those in charge of power will escape responsibility. And the sharing and caring will be done by those young singular ones, those who put their bodies on the line,this sunny Sunday afternoon down on Vic Mathias shores by the Homeless Memorial Where the only names we want to see -are those prosecuted for neglect of duty. It will not bring the dead back to life-but then,neither will poetry..
