Vangelis,
Jean-Michel Jarre as in France, is one of the musicians who made it popular in
the good sense, electronic music. origianle We owe him the tape of Blade Runner
and Chariots of Fire to mention that these compositions the best known music
that marked my adolescence. Since those early days, I hardly listened to
Vangelis, I must admit, except at random from a film or advertising (sometimes
unknowingly), but the artist still retains a special place in my heart . Journey
to Ithaka is a documentary about Vangelis. This is not really the kind of
material we usually chroniquons here, but once will not hurt, we will. This is a
140 minutes DVD containing the documentary without bonus . It was published in
2009 and reissued this year by Gonzo Multimedia. It is a mixture of interviews,
excerpts from films and concerts. Vangelis talks about his music, meetings he
did, his childhood and his career. Many other dignitaries are also involved,
producers, directors (Ridley Scott, Polanski ...), actors (Sean Connery,
Depardieux ..), singers and many others. Each gives us his vision of the
musician at work and in life. We learn that Vangelis is Greek, so if he is
self-taught (he does not know transcribe his music), painter but for fun, pretty
rebel the business model even though it is understood that it also allowed him
to speak, passionate (but you could have guessed) the potential of synthesizers
and sound. This is not a documentary, one might see on ARTE example. It was
released on DVD, why not. It lacks a few songs played in their entirety instead
of extracts that are a bit frustrating. All dialogues are in English, no
subtitle, even in the language of Shakespeare, but since most speakers are not
native speakers of English (Micheline Roquebrune reassure you about your
language failures) the documentary is very understandable. It is not often that
I sit in front of the screen to listen to the life of an artist, but now I must
admit that I got caught. Also see for those interested in Vangelis. Neoprog
