SNOWDROPS
I WAS DRIVING MY RENTAL CAR IN HUDDERSFIELD
I was taking my friend Ed
Reiss
to the Ted Hughes Memorial
Reading ,as he
was a devotee of that deep
poet.
We were navigating through
some dirty slush
banked up on both sides of
the thin roads
Then i saw it.Little white
butterfly.Floating etherically ,lightly
as a thin wafer dancer in
the ambivalent blue sky
The first snow flake for
my eyes.I saw its warning
(THERE WILL BE MORE OF
ME-and soon!..)
I dropped Ed off at the
Memorial Reading
handed in my rental
car,and flew out of Bradford
as fast as my winter
warning could allow
Snowflakes are
messengers
They come in crowds
