THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

WE,THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES

Have no quarrel with the people of Iran

nor civilians in China(whom we will not fight)

nor the good people of Mexico,Honduras,Guatemala

who come as refugees to our borders

and petition their presence in our (stolen)space.

In our name,forward bases are set up in forty countries

Embassies routinely spy on allies.Sanctions are imposed

that cripple economies.Military cultures kill civilians.

We wish to know more of your history(so we do not have to repeat

as we did in Afghanistan,who has withstood invasions English,Russian,American..etc)

We would like to respect your cultures-your music  and poetry(O Cuba!O Russia!Why punish your poets?

And,if a Marshall Plan can be marshaled-to improve your economy

so that we do not waste trillions via our Pentagon-but build gardens of goodwill and gladness.

Of course,you see what we did to our Indigenous Cultures.You remember slavery.

Reparations are called for.Memory is required.We will not be prisoners of our pasts.

Future calls us all-to meet human beings with humility and humanity

So we can all live in harmony -as We,The People.
