"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
GROUND/DAY ZERO
WHAT HAS TO CHANGE IS US
Our attitude to water-use/flush/abuse
100% recycling as of yesterday./enforced limits on us.
As if"Every Drop Is Precious".Ground water.Rain water.Artesian-
all have limits.End fracking and industrial uses.Only black water on golf courses.
No lawns.Zeroscaping.Rocks don't need sprinkler systems. We live in deserts.
Our water use needs be consistent with context. No Nestle bulk buys and resale.
No foreign ownership of water resources.Drought used to be cyclic .Now it is constant.
Remember when Brisbane Reservoir was down to one day's worth of water?
Recall how the Brisbane City Council gave ratepayers huge water tanks for storage.
Yet still we squander our tiny drinking waters.Bathrooms.Toilets.Dripping kitchen taps.
No oil pipelines through fragile eco-systems/environments.Water means more
than a "resource"for "development"..It has strict limits and these must be obeyed.
All these new thousands coming into Austin-same amount of water.Must we wait for drought
to assuage over-use and abuse of our liquid love?
Spring 2019 was the driest season in 120 years for Australia,
according to the country's Bureau of Meteorology. It has so far been
followed up by a nearly equally dry summer with some of the hottest
temperatures on record. That trend is likely to continue as the earth
continues to get warmer, and it carries with it a pressing concern: a
water crisis. As lakes are rivers start to dry up, those living in the
rural interior of the massive island continent are already finding
themselves rationing water just to survive, according to a report in the
New York Times — and Australia's water crisis likely to only get worse.
