Jefferson Starship celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2014!

JS_photoJefferson Starship was created by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner and David Freiberg, also a former Jefferson Airplane member and co-founder of the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service. The band, descended from Jefferson Airplane – who performed at Monterey and Woodstock, at Altamont with the Rolling Stones, and shared the bill countless times with Grateful Dead & Janis Joplin, and whose music helped define a generation focused on civil rights, environmental awareness and anti-war activism – is set to perform the landmark recordings Dragon Fly and Red Octopus. The latter catapulted them to the top of the charts twice in 1975.

Jefferson Starship’s Europe-wide broadcast from the Lugano Jazz Festival in Switzerland this past June, along with their performance in Uzice, Serbia for the American Embassy, furthers the band’s historic legacy as musical ambassadors. They just returned from Brazil, the 30th country they have visited.

Jefferson Starship is fronted by acclaimed singer Cathy Richardson, star of the play Love, Janis and long-time members Donny Baldwin (drums), Chris Smith (keyboard/bass) and guitarist Jude Gold (formerly with JGB) round out the line-up. 2013 proved another remarkable year for the stalwart, iconic band whose diverse projects and performances include a symphony engagement, broadcast across the U.S. on HDNET, and their heralded appearance on PBS, headlining 60s Rock, Pop & Soul, which still airs coast to coast.

Jefferson Starship continues to perform their repertoire of hits spanning all eras of their existence, including “Jane,” “Somebody To Love,” “Miracles,” “White Rabbit,” “Volunteers,” “Count On Me,” “Find Your Way Back,” “Wooden Ships,” “Today,” “Lather,” “Crown of Creation” and many more.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
