Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
DISCONTINUOUS NARRATIVES
1.SOLO
"Hi,y'all!I'm from Antones! Gaptoothed smiler
with a curled dollar hanging out of his front pocket jeans
He stood at Givens Park before a soul gathered
and he wanted to sing! When Dana and Magic Jack arrived
he wanted to jam!So they sang with him/played guitars with him
all the soul of the 60s and peace songs of the past.He wanted the blues
so Elmore James and James Brown. He wanted loud-so ,with no PA
he serenaded the assembling crowd. His was the blue bird voice they first heard.
When the listening exercise finished three hours later-there he was-still singing
on that concrete stage in Givens Park, having birthed The New Movement
His blues from our past a start.New songs will arise. His was the last voice i recall
singing to the empty air that held the hopes of hundreds..
2.AFTER SPOKEN&HEARD
Our tired barista shares."Excuse me!I could not help overhearing
what you were saying about police violence in Austin. My ex-boyfriend is black,
and he was driving legally.Pulled over by APD.Gun in his face. The full threat.
Happily he is still alive, unlike those who met their violence with their unarmed flesh."
She resumes cleaning up around us.We grow silent.Respect.
