"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
WE WERE ON THE SCOTTISH BORDER
HE WALKED ME DOWN TO THE HARBOR BEACH
"Here is where they burned the witches two hundred years ago"
Then he shared a stronger story.Seems the fishermen
were behind in their tithes.Fish were not biting/storms prevented sailing.
So the Church threatened excommunication unless actions were taken.
Against weather advice, the able-bodied men set out to fish(and were successful)
As they were returning ,within sight of their wives and children,a storm sprang up
and sank their boats, drowning the best and most able of their men.
There is now a sculpture standing where the women and children watched
as their loved ones drowned in front of their eyes..Later,it was women
who fished the seas and tended the nets as well as their children.
Truth is always stronger than fiction. When fishing for facts,
always ask the victims.
