Rupert Hine receives APRS Sound Fellowship

Rupert Hine, producer, composer, mentor and co-founder of the BRPG (British Record Producers’ Guild), has been awarded an APRS Sound Fellowship.

Bestowed for the last five years, the Fellowship Awards recognise special contributions to the ‘Art, Science and Business of Recording and this year, together with Joe Boyd, Clive Green, Bob Ludwig, Jimmy Page and Chris Thomas, Rupert joined an elite group of past recipients; sound and music innovators that include Sir Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Chris Blackwell, Sir George Martin, the APRS President, and the like.

Rupert’s achievements over the last 45 years were summed up in a diverting and informal citation given by Sir Bob Geldof, who revealed that the only reason why Rupert never produced the Rolling Stones was because Keith Richards thought “he was too posh”. A remark which 'brought the house down' - the illustrious and assembled company at the Roof Gardens, Kensington, where the award ceremony was held on 22nd November 2011.

After the event, Rupert said that receiving the accolade directly from Sir George gave the occasion "real meaning and gravitas" on both a personal and professional level and thanked the APRS "hugely" for voting him this honour. He also made special comment that to share the occasion with both Jimmy Page and fellow producer Chris Thomas made the occasion "even more memorable".

APRS Executive Director Peter Filleul said: “The special affection in which Rupert is held in the industry is particularly a reflection of the consistent warmth, wisdom and worldliness he has brought to producing, composing and recording a fascinating diversity of musical interests.”

Peter Blegvad New Play on BBC 3 December 3rd

Peter Blegvad American musician/artist has created a new play entitled Use It Or Lose It  with Ian Chamber. Peter who is perhaps best known to music fan as a member of the cult band Slapp Happy and briefly Henry Cow also features in the play as narrator and the character Dr. Charles Proctor that will be broadcast on  BBC Radio 3 on Saturday 3rd of December between 21:55-22:30

Details of the play are below. Peter has a long relationship with Gonzo MD Rob Ayling with Gonzo releasing two recent Slapp Happy albums

Dame Harriet Walter and David Horovitch appear in Use It Or Lose It, a radiophonic play created by Peter Blegvad and Iain Chambers, charting the failing memory of a fictional GP, Charles Proctor (Peter Blegvad).

Combining narrated fiction with observations from the world of history and culture, the programme uses radiophonic music and sound design to take us inside Charles Proctor’s mind.

As Dr Proctor descends deeper into amnesia, we hear voices reflecting on memory: Walter de la Mare, Rabbi Ben Ezra, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Emily Dickinson, William Wordsworth, Luis Bunuel, Harold Pinter, Francis Galton, René Descartes, W.B.Yeats, and Elvis Presley.

And we encounter a new age healer, Madam Aladdin (Harriet Walter), a radical who advocates going with the disease. She entreats Dr Proctor to join her Lamp Camp and Illumination Showroom, and embrace amnesia as a way of ‘extending the boundaries of the self… of becoming someone else’.

Peter Blegvad is an American musician, songwriter, and cartoonist. He is a regular contributor to Radio 3’s The Verb.

Steve Cooke Is Burning Hot At This Year's Hollywood Music In Media Awards!

New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Steve Cooke Official Website) Two nominated singles "Radio" & "Gravity" are from the double album set "The Paramount Sessions" featuring tracks also from Adam Lambert.

"Its great to be back in 2011 and I hope this year we can be rewarded for all the hard work we have put into these productions. I'm looking forward to this year's award event and having a great party time with the likes of Smokey Robertson attending", Steve said.

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA's) recognizes and honors the music in visual mediums, the talented individuals responsible for creating and placing it and the music of both mainstream and independent artists from around the globe for their compositions and recordings in all forms of media. http://www.hmmawards.org/

This years HMMA is recognizing Steve Cooke and his team in the "Best Music Video" category for the first single "Radio", where Steve Cooke is singing and playing guitar with Adam Lambert band members, Monte Pittman (Guitar), Tommy Joe Ratliff (Bass) and with the veteran Heart Breaker himself Steve Ferrone on drums (Tom Petty).

Steve Cooke and Monte Pittman were also in the video production for the second single "Gravity", this single is up for this years "Best Song" award in AC/AAA.

Steve Cooke commented that, "Gravity was also a fantastic music clip to make. We made that one first with Marcus Brown on bass (Madonna/Seal) and Steve Sidelnyk on drums (Madonna/Seal) and I guess that set us up for RADIO, which we filmed 2 weeks later. The lead break in Gravity is played by Phil X who is currently touring with Bon Jovi.

"We wanted RADIO to cross over the generations and I think we achieved that in this video. We are crossing the fingers that we will have something to bring home on the night. Im just so happy that both songs made it into the Award finals," he added.

"The Paramount Sessions" (which features both songs) http://soundcloud.com/paramountsessions has just been released worldwide with ten songs sung by Steve Cooke on CD two and ten songs from the pre-idol voice of Adam Lambert on CD one. The Deluxe set combines the singers with the same author, backing band and production house Paramount studios in Hollywood for an epic twenty song experience accompanied with two outstanding music videos.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
