MY HEART DOCTOR IS SO POPULAR

He is booked up a year in advance

Mortality means sometimes there are vacancies

So i winged in ,did a stress test,barely passed

He told me I was lucky.His previous patient

died from a stroke.My blocked heart is not fatal..

but if ..and then..i realized the truth of life-

Every heartbeat may be counted,but no one knows the end.

Mini-strokes come more often than any heart attack,and

life is fickle ,random and often magical.My heart continues to beat.

I cannot see it except on an EKG screen.I applaud this hearty volunteer,

who persists without a breath lost(until the last,and even Zen

may be convinced via electric shock to fibrillate again..I guess that i am lucky..

that this Doctor cares enough to warn ..not to trust to stress or poor diet..and to move

as if my very life depended upon it-because it does..

When we move from human capacities to robots and apps

At first,the robots looked like us(or dogs,or horses-

recognizable shapes with metal where flesh should be

Next they looked like boxes-no ears,eyes,arms,legs-functional but non-human

Now they do not bother to make replicants.Too many science fiction movies(Terminators!Transformers!)

Now they seek direct implants into our brains

Direct pulses from human capacities.But they miss some aspects-

Community consciousness,compassion,context.

This is why i do not drive a "self-driving"car

Strange Fruit is a unique two-hour radio show exploring the world of underground, strange and generally neglected music. All shows are themed and all shows set out to give the most hardened of sound-hounds some new delight to sample.

The show is also unique in providing homework for undergraduate students on North West Kent College’s Foundation Degree in Professional Writing (who dig up many of the odd facts featured in the links between tracks).
