THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

FERAL,INVISIBLE
Possum lives longer than armadillo
Icons die from slowness
Fox merges with invisible
like some feral cat, suburban.
Goats of the sea are sharks
Old as crocodiles, schooled
with pilot fish, guiding. Remorae.
Cockroach ,rat ,mosquito, fly
last longer than birds and bees.
Ancient ark .Two of every creature
including kangaroo,emu,goanna,echidna.
Insects? They eat the wood of beams
Termites.Larvae.Infiltrating.
One world for eyes ,circuses, zoos
Other for the feral/ all invisible-inside you...

ENCOMIENDAS
Clash between economic and religious powers
Slavery regarded Native Americans as objects
They were not paid. They had no rights.
Christianity preached equality
but it came up against the status quo,
when landowners see human beings as property.
Politics,religion,economics clash-
those who survive via slavery will never change.
These attitudes remain.Equality on all levels
a prayer,affirmation,petition.Meanwhile,farmers and miners
demand free labor of Native Americans.Slavery intrinsic for profits,
when human rights are seen- as an economic loss...

VILLAGE FAIRS 2021
RENAISSANCE FAIRS TO STRAWBERRY FAIR
Stalls of hand made home made artifacts
Earrings,pendants,brooches -all portable and priced
Surrounded by high priced food stalls with long lines
Yes-they still sell knives and leather goods..
Henna tattoos from tattooed stall holders
But modern stalls hawk CBD,gay stickers, astrologically inclined trinkets
These will be carved, forged, created from bending copper wires
Stones, rocks, crystals will be sold-all that glitters is not gold
Creators sit patiently like fisherfolk to reel their customers in
Curiosity  and attraction to bright shiny things.Parents share dollars for children's art.
Everywhere it is as green and golden as a park .Ancient the exchange of culture for gold
The content may be new-but the forms are all old
Hear the click of credit card machines as the future is sold.

COAL IN MY STOCKING
MY FATHER WORKED ON STEAM TRAINS
Powered by coal ,as the first automobiles were
I remember the coal dust and air particles and soot
that filled my eyes and hair and face. Ugly. Polluting .All we had.
Childhood saw transition to diesel-still with fumes
but less physical pollution. D.H Lawrence writes
about not wanting to go down in the(coal) mines
as his father and grandfather did before him.
Margaret Thatcher closed down those coal mines
The air became cleaner-the water too
Earth relieved from intrusive unsafe coal mines.
But what do workers do-when their only income is terminated?
Those huge windmills only require truck drivers and maintenance workers
Solar panels ditto-all specialized jobs
And the scale is huge-taller than me and you
I do not want coal to pollute air,water,earth-or you and me
I want renewable energy systems, Please..

What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
