LINK: ‘The beginning of an amazing musical period’: Technology helped Jon Anderson rebound after Yes

While so much of rock radio is now focused on rerunning legendary moments from the past, including the classic hits of Yes, Jon Anderson is looking ahead. In fact, he says music’s future has never been brighter.
“We’re really at the beginning of an amazing musical period,” Anderson tells Jason Saulnier of MusicLegends.ca. “In the next 10, 20 years music and visualization are just going to explode.”
Anderson has been in the midst of a creative renaissance since recovering from a series of health issues that ultimately led to his ouster from Yes. That’s included two studio releases and a live album, as well as several other stand-alone efforts like the long-form composition “Open” — which hearkened back to his early-1970s work with Yes.

The Spirit Of Yes: Jon Anderson Speaks With HPR

The distinctive voice of the band Yes, Jon Anderson, has been a solo artist for several years following a less-than-friendly split with the group. He recently performed an Asia Pacific tour and during it, spoke with HPR’s Dave Lawrence for an interview being featured this afternoon on All Things Considered. In our feature, he explains how the last time he was in the islands, he even did some spontaneous collaborating, right on the beach.

Peter Banks RIP: Jon Anderson pays tribute

Peter Banks, July 15, 1947 – March 8, 2013
Jon Anderson has paid homage to fellow Yes founding member Peter Banks, who died March 8 at at age 65.
Anderson told Premiere Radio Networks’ Sal Cirrincione: “Peter was in good spirits the last couple of times we spoke, even though he had been in bad health of late, but always joking and still ready to create music. I will miss him.”
Anderson also confirmed it was Banks who originally came up with the ‘Yes’ moniker.
“It is true, he was the one who said: ‘Yes, we should call the band Yes.’ Bless him… a sweet guy… and a wild guitar player.”
The current line-up of Yes issued this collective statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of fellow bandmate and founding Yes member, Peter Banks. He was a huge piece of the fabric that made Yes what it is and our thoughts, sincere condolences and prayers are with him and his family. Peter, we shall miss you greatly.”
The pioneering guitarist had been referred to as an “architect of progressive music” and as a cross between Pete Townshend and Wes Montgomery.

LINK: Jon Anderson Suggested 3-Album Yes Tour Years Ago

Jon Anderson
Bad brains: Jon Anderson
Former Yes singer Jon Anderson says the idea of playing multiple albums in full on each night of a tour was something he came up with years ago – but his bandmates thought it was crazy.
The prog icons, now fronted by Glass Hammer vocalist Jon Davison, are performing 1971′s The Yes Album, 1972′s Close To The Edge and 1977′s Going For The One in their entirety on a trek that kicked off last week.
Anderson tells Something Else: “I actually talked about doing that a couple of times. I put forward that idea about 10 years ago, that we should do something very special.
“I wanted to call it The Yes Festival: we would stay in one area, and Friday, Saturday, Sunday we’d play an album or two per night.
“They thought I was out of my brain! But fans could have spent time with the band. We could do solo performances then a big concert. We could create a festival atmosphere. You talk about stuff like that because you’re itching to do something different.”

ABWH REVIEW

Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe – Live at the NEC 1989 (2012 Gonzo Multimedia) The fascinating history of YES never ceases to amaze fans musically. None so much as when Messer’s. Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe broke off and attempted to create music that they felt was closer to YES’ original prime directive. A tour, live disc and live DVD resulted but that wasn’t enough. We now have this special three-disc set featuring the band’s entire live show at the NEC recorded on October 24th, 1989. The first two discs handle all the audio content, including member solos and encores, while disc three is devoted to a short 30-minute film of home movies shot by support keyboardist Julian Colbeck. The video shows the band behind the scenes in the dressing room, doing the sound check and performing on stage, all shot from the sidelines with Colbeck’s hand-held video camera. It’s a kind-of fly-on-the-wall look at the band. The sound of the live discs in this deluxe set is superb, first rate for the era and provides a nice sound capsule of the times. This set is only available through: www.gonzomultimedia.co.uk

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
