He is a certainly genius who has pushed back the barriers of electronic rock, especially with Yes, the British super group that he played with for many years.
But another side to Wakeman that many people don't know about is that he is a Christian, and was baptized as a teenager at South Harrow Baptist Church in London, where he was also a Sunday School teacher.
I have been friends with Rick for some 40 years and had the privilege of writing the very first press story about him when he was still a student at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London. It was for the local paper I worked for at the time and as he rose to superstardom, he would invite me his various shows and at one time he actually owned 22 cars, including eight Rolls Royces. I even helped present a BBC TV documentary about him.
When my family moved to Southern California back in 1982 and eventually began ASSIST, Rick offered to do some benefit concerts for us and we have since done two packed-out US tours together, one of which included live performances of "The New Gospels", an oratorio about the life of Christ, with a talented group of musicians, which included his son, Adam Wakeman, and one of them was at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.
