Image result for WAKEMAN gastankGonzo Multimedia reminder of a forgotten story in the history of British Rock: I must say that for many North American television like me these events were totally unknown. To return to the subject of this column say that between 1982 and 1983 keyboardists Rick WAKEMAN and Tony ASHTON were leaders of a fantastic TV show called "Gas Tank"! It is not necessary, I think, to get back on the career of Rick WAKEMAN. As the late Tony ASHTON, as keyboard player, he was a highly sought after musician especially for his work in the studio with Jerry Lee Lewis, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and many others. The box contains three albums, each divided into two episodes.

We are in 1982, popular music has gone through several tumultuous years, a euphemism for the artists of the time. Musicians type those classic rock and progressive rock are thinking, especially in light of new influences, and the enormous impact of the arrival of the video via the juggernaut called MTV. Punk has come and gone, but this trend continues to influence a variety of groups. Here comes this TV show which has the distinction of matching names that otherwise would not have had reason to be. Imagine Chris FARLOWE (the singer of the group Colosseum), Alvin LEE (guitarist Ten Years After died in 2013), Ian PAICE (Deep Purple drummer) and Rick PARFITT (singer / guitarist of the group Status Quo who died last year ) resume the song "Lucille" by Little RICHARD. Suzi QUATRO or vocals with Steve HACKETT harmonica having fun by taking two songs "My Baby" and "CC Rider". Unique, too, "The Man's Fool" starring Phil LYNOTT and John SYKES of Thin Lizzy with support from the group WAKEMAN, or the "Heart Attack" explosive refined by the magic guitar Alvin LEE and rough voice of Eric BURDEN, the Animals. This journey through time spanning three CDs, you understand that it would take too long to analyze each album. Still, this set captures historic moments of the classic British rock.

The booklet details the contents well with the addition of several individual photos eras, however there is a lack of information on the issue as such. Still, for the older of us it is a collector's item that you enjoy to listen and listen again. For younger people it's time to learn the roots of the music you listen to.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
