"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not

HELLO, CHARLIE

GROWING UP WITH THE STONES

Charlie was always the calm /dour one

His fixed beat and countenance reliable

Stone face among Rolling Stones

Jazz drummer among rock giants

Of course,he jammed with other bands

with trios and quartets in jazz clubs

This made him happy-more than million dollar tours
He was most at ease among close friends

Did not need to play an image-just his drums

And that beat that sustained the Stones over many years

I had(of course)seen him behind his kit

but never got too close

Now our Charlie's playing in that Jazz Club in the sky

And he smiles...
