...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.

Gonzo Weekly #381/2

Gonzo Weekly #381/2
THE PLAGUEY GENESIS ISSUE
www.gonzoweekly.com
In this undeniably unusual issue we go to London Remixed, say goodbye to Genesis P-Orridge, read about the rehabilitation of the Manson girls, ask whether art is tainted by the moral behaviour of the artist, look at the new Trevor Rabin box set, go see Steve Hackett in New York, examine the America (the band) 50th Anniversary box set, and - oh yes - talk about the global pandemic which currently threatens the wellbeing of the human race (WE DO THAT QUITE A LOT), and we join PAART with their animal rescue mission. And much more...
And there are radio shows from Mack Maloney and Friday Night Progressive AND Canterbury sans Frontieres, AND Merrell Fankhauser, but no sign of Strange Fruit this week, there is a column from Kev Rowland, and one from C.J.Stone, although Mr Biffo, Neil Nixon and Roy Weard, are on hiatus. There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and antichinuses who have lost their shoes (OK, nothing to do with tiny marsupials who are searching for their footwear, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. And the best part is IT's ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!
This issue features:
Coronavirus, Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, Morrissey, Michael Jackson, Roy Harper, Genesis P-Orridge, Trevor Rabin, America, Bart Lancia, Steve Hackett, Friday Night Progressive, Canterbury Sans Frontieres, The Merrell Fankhauser Show, Mack Maloney's Mystery Hour, Konstantin Valentinovich “Kuzya UO” Ryabinov, Doriot Anthony Dwyer, Eva Pilarová (née Bojanovská), Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (ne Neil Andrew Megson), Hubertus Richenel Baars (aka Richenel), Donald Vernon Burrows AO MBE, Marcelo Peralta, Eric Taylor, Thái Thanh (born Phạm Thị Băng Thanh), Sergio Bassi, Jason Rainey, Wray Downes, Eric Weissberg, Hellmut Stern, Kenneth Ray Rogers, Jerry Slick, Jean Leber, Dan Wooding, Tres Warren, Julie Ann Felix, Michael Josef Longo, Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango, Rick Wakeman, Gerry Beckley, The Waterson Family, The Fall, Richard Wright and Dave Harris - Zee, Chasing the Monsoon, PAART, Alan Dearling, London Remixed Festival, Brass Off, Diddy Sweg, Ceilidh, Break Out Brass, Brasstermind, Ed Cox, E-Coli, BCO: Grime Orchestrated, Tshok, Gnawa Blues Allstars, Copper Viper, Wanton String Band, Tom Vague, Kev Rowland, Mystery, Orgiya Pravednikov, Landmarq, C.J. GONZO TRACK OF THE DAY: Trevor Rabin - Anerley Road

NOTICE
The eagle-eyed amongst you will have also noticed that the Gonzo Multimedia websites have changed and are in a process of flux, so there are no individual sales links at the moment. But check out www.gonzomultimedia.co.uk for a thing of wonder.
There is a hunky-dory, all singing, all dancing, Gonzo Publications website is now pretty well done, although there are still nine authors who need personal pages. You can find it at www.gonzopublishers.com and then tell me what a clever fellow I am. It even has a haiku to explain why some links are not finished:
"These links do not work, now but they will do so soon, we apologise"

Enjoy.

BEATLES: Abbey Road zebra crossing repainted in coronavirus lockdown

Council workers take advantage of the empty streets to spruce up the crossing featured on the cover of the 1969 Beatles album

The iconic Abbey Road zebra crossing made famous by the 1969 Beatles album of the same name has been repainted while the streets of London are empty because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A highways maintenance crew quietly repainted the normally busy zebra crossing on 24 March, the day after the prime minister ordered Britain to go on lockdown in an attempt to stem the spread of the virus.

COMING THIS WEEKEND

THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

RE-VERSING EVERYTHINBG
ALL WE DID NOW HISTORIC
Timelines disrupted/venues shut down
Those whose sunlight cured existential pain
Now shuttered with the others on a home train
Now divorces rise,and domestic abuse
Now we find out who we really are
Not by what we used to do/more by how well we adapt
Some of us are not recluses
Some see this as solitary punishment
Some have cabin fever when National Parks close
and Hike and Bike trails are closed, and gyms are closed
and libraries and cafes and bars..All our homes
stolen from our personal intimacies/our shared histories.
Now we MUST love our neighbors
Care for those for whom "social distancing"is impossible
Imposed these new conditions upon continuance-
"Lowering the curve","Shelter in place","Lockdown"
our new Official Orders. The check is in the mail.

"LISTENING THE FIRST PRAYER/RESPECT THE NEXT"
When i was young,i would move close to our family radio
Twelve inch speakers,modulated radio voices
Reassured me that all was well in my world'
So i bought a tiny transistor radio(post-crystal radio set)
and listened to their music and their speech
Young enough for Eisteddfods(with memorized Shakespeare)
I found i loved the flow of mellifluous words/with gravitas
I loved the cadence of an Irish lilt/the plum vowels of actors
and radio remained a trusted ally and companion in my growing
Hence a love for Community Radio ,and desire to be heard
so i could share the word pearls of my knowing. It is oyster shell time now
The beach is silent as the waves retreat. We are isolated,in silence
No storytellers to stir us with golden speech..yet,one day,a time will come
when we will continue conversation/LIVE and on a radio station..
Until Zen-HAPPY LISTENING!

REAL vs VIRTUAL
THE PROBLEM WITH ONLINE
when actual is not allowed
is that third parties become more powerful
than our original intentions.
Of course-social distancing
but now no Amazon-apart from medical supplies
and no more public poetry-just online forums
As poetics gets cancelled-our public conversation becomes slanted
All talk of metaphor or history becomes "Plague-Oriented"
Public conversations become FACEBOOK entries
edited and censored by A.I algorithms.
Even the cinemas are closed down
so visual metaphors are solely online
I would not mind-except our life
is threaded with all other lives
not to be edited, censored, subjected to A.I
WE ARE ALIVE!and our poems,like birds,must fly

Pandora's Box calls The Progressive Underground "Inescapable"

Translated using Google Translate

KEV ROWLAND: THE PROGRESSIVE UNDERGROUND.
AN INDEPENDENT GUIDE TO THE SERVICE OF PROGRESSIVE ROCK

As Kev himself explains, progressive rock did not disappear with the advent of punk or the lack of support from the media. On the contrary, despite the lack of global communication in those days of the late eighties of the last century, in which the Internet was a tool that was little used, there were magazines or media that did continue for years, while others disappeared after the publication of a few copies.

One of those publications that reported on this prolific progressive scene, never disappeared on the other hand, was Feedback, which appeared as a newsletter in 1988, but which in 1990, promoted by Kev Rowland, became a magazine at the service of promoting that music not reviewed in any mainstream media.

Feedback covered a long period, between 1991 and 2006, and Kev Rowland has decided to group all those new bands, of different success and recognition today, and the reviews that appeared in the magazine in The Progressive Underground, an ambitious project published in three volumes. that include not only data on the then novelties of Ageness, Ezra, Fruitcake, Anabis, Chandelier, Egdon Heath, Gray Lady Down, Everon or Höyre-Kone, or groups like Ark, Flower Kings, Galahad, Haze, Finneus Gauge or Freewill, to name a few, but also of established ones like ELP, Gentle Giant or Steve Hackett, to name others.

The volumes, in which the groups are arranged alphabetically, include treasures such as reviews of the demos of famous bands such as Citizen Cain or Big Big Train. The first volume of this impressive collection includes groups up to H; the second from I to S; and the third will complete the alphabet and will include, in turn, reviews of videos, DVDs and even concerts.

An opportunity to attend, learn and research a whole generation of musicians who kept, in one way or another, the progressive genre (and its derivatives) in a fluid stream that remained with effort and great dedication to this day.

Contact Kev and he will inform you in person about the acquisition and characteristics of this inescapable work that deserves to be on our shelves.

You can write directly to gonzo@dfz.org.uk, or you can purchase it from Amazon directly. You will not regret.
