GARDENERS UNITE!
This only earth started as Eden,and needs active re-wilding
Texas was grassy plains,is desert,and landscape needs adaptive strategies.
Rainfall is eccentric,floods unpredictable,and drought a constant factor.
Activists like Austin Davenport shared his experiences in planting tomatoes,
as well as growing gourmet mushrooms at home.Lori Daul listed many "indestructible "plants,
while Blake Tollett shared how to get involved (as a volunteer)in Mayfield Park.
The poetry and music of Thom and Darrel was punctuated by raffle drawings.Sponsors like H.E.B
had donated coffee and other comestibles,all reinforcing the theme of ORGANIC and HOME GARDENS.
Renee Studebaker brought samples of weeds and their stories ,intermingled with her re-wilding attempts.
She let grasses grow,accepted useful weeds(for tinctures,teas,and remedies)-and learned by trial and error
how to let the Wilde return ,without overwhelming her productive food -bearing garden.
Gardening is both a private and collective experience-Community Garden Plots exist at Mayfield Park,
and their existence depends totally upon volunteer efforts.Paths wind down to REALLY wilde parts ,
where one can get truly lost.May all Austin parks tithe space for re-wilding,so we can all experience true Nature..
Of course,the peacocks claimed attention,preened for cameras,and deported themselves anarchically throughout the presentations..
We
heard original green poems by Thom,with Darrel backing,and a final
reggae piece(YOU,LOVE)which featured Round Rock Poet E.B Staples,
Open mic musician Paul,and Yorkshire clipper acoustics by Trev the Road poet.You may find samples of the concert on INSTAGRAM

gardeners love to hear words and music praising their green
efforts..Mayfield Park is an Austin Treasure-it survives via volunteers.
