"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)

GROWING UP LOVING THE QUEEN
Never having met the young Queen.Like the Beatles-
distance illumined their brightness.Flagwaving and bunting
distracted us from basic economics.SOMEONE was paying for these spectacles
for Royal Yachts and costumes,parades,processions.
Women's magazines passed praise on from Good Queen Mother
to Good Queen to Lady Di(until Lady Di died-then,an outpouring of grief
in poetry and flowers like lovers lost /until we could not see
Machiavelli for the Media focus was on loss of one person, not our liberties..
Flags waved for Thatcher &that cruel Malvinas war
but not for those young souls lost on General Belgrano
Flags adorn coffins returning from Iraq,Afghanistan,Somalia
but never for the too many civilian dead or dying.
I am not in love with flags-more humans/beaming!
