David Bedford R.I.P

We here at Gonzo were saddened to hear of the death of David Bedford. David had been battling lung cancer for some time when he died on October 1st.

He was involved in the career of many rock artists in addition to composing and releasing his own albums including the Rime of The Ancient Mariner, The Odyssey and Stars End to name just three.

He is probably best remembered by Rock fans for his work with Mike Oldfield on Tubular Bells and The Orchestral Tubular Bells. David also worked with Mike in Kevin Ayers band The Whole World at the start of the seventies.

His most recent release was through Gonzo and was a live recording of The Odyssey recorded with an all star cast of musicians at the Royal Albert Hall in January 1977.

Gonzo MD Rob Ayling said this about David Bedford.

"I have been a fan of David's work for many years and he worked with so many artists over the years that formed a great deal of my record collection including Kevin Ayers, Roy Harper and of course Mike Oldfield. I was thrilled to be able to work with David on some of his own releases through Voiceprint and Gonzo including the most recent Live release of The Odyssey concert. I shall miss his music but also miss the man immensely"

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
