THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

TONIGHT THE CHILDREN WILL INVADE
Their parents solicitous around them
Ever since pins were given with candy
Few children tap tap us after dark
They come in clumps,in crowds,in packs
They tap tap tap until we are emptied
Then we turn our light out.Even then, packs'
of pre-adolescent thin wolves hover with bags big
and masks but no costumes as such
much like Clockwork Orange droogs
We are less generous with such bloodsuckers
If they only dressed like vampires
we would at least know their process
Night is coming soon-the moon hides
Streetlights are dim in South Austin

Our barrio is preparing..

Strange Fruit is a unique two-hour radio show exploring the world of underground, strange and generally neglected music. All shows are themed and all shows set out to give the most hardened of sound-hounds some new delight to sample.

The show is also unique in providing homework for undergraduate students on North West Kent College’s Foundation Degree in Professional Writing (who dig up many of the odd facts featured in the links between tracks).

Neil Nixon, the founder and co-presenter of the show has released a book about rare albums for Gonzo Multimedia.

The show is broadcast on Miskin Radio every Sunday from 10-00-midnight.

ART HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
Shaken off her price tags and claimed her populist heritage
Art is no longer his story/nor caged inside a museum display
Art is no longer archaeology.Dig It!Art LIVES!
On every street -as icons, graffiti ,tags-images come alive
On every wall-a mural.Every cage-a garden ,growing
With color and splash and panache, new and young and uniting
World changes the way you see worlds changing
Be the unframed sky of sound art/crunch of cloud made rain
Sun spilling on canvases of sand and cave
Everywhere is art!Every one an artist!
Your Mistress piece awaits!

SPECIAL NOTICE: If you, too, want to unleash the power of your inner rock journalist, and want to join a rapidly growing band of likewise minded weirdos please email me at jon@eclipse.co.uk The more the merrier really.

* The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow...

* The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.co.uk

* We should probably mention here, that some of our posts are links to things we have found on the internet that we think are of interest. We are not responsible for spelling or factual errors in other people's websites. Honest guv!

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an old hippy of 57 who - together with an infantile orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, and two small kittens, one totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the infantile orange cat, and the adventurous kittens?

BEING AWAKE PUTS ME TO SLEEP
Insomnia fuels my creativity
I live by Light-both sun and moon flight
I tried multi-modal multi-tasking
but it failed to impress
One cannot drive and sleep!
Sleep deprivation is a torture
like solitary confinement
We need rest and dreams to spring forth clean
into a new dream.Otherwise our dreams are old and stale as bread
And we need new food for thought ,or our head
will simply repeat.Simply repeat what has been said
You can get by on a few hours of sleep

But MORE is what you really need!!

BECAUSE WE DO NOT KNOW
We blame Monsanto.After all,Zika outbreaks
are largely in Third World countries, where spraying of crops
results in microcephacy in babies.Yet now,110 pregnant women in Florida
have tested positive for the Zika virus(Aedes Aegypti)
Do not ask if climate change has resulted in proliferation of mosquitoes!
Now why $1.1 billion of your taxes will be used on aerial spraying .
Nor why the Gates Foundation has a plan to distribute "good"mosquitoes
in Chinese take-out boxes ,to mix with the Zika mosquitoes
to outbreed the virus.Chemical warfare.Yes! DEET  may have other side-effects
especially when sprayed in water supply areas,or near vulnerable children.
Much of the Third World is exposed to unsafe water supplies(mosquito breeding areas)
The earth is heating, with visible consequences.Antidote to mosquitoes?

If rats and cockroaches survive our chemical sprays, what next?

Never-Before-Heard JUDAS PRIEST Demo Extract To Be Included On AL ATKINS's 'Reloaded' Album

Original JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Al Atkins will release his new solo album, "Reloaded", on Gonzo Multimedia. The album is a collection tracks from the last four decades that Al has either written or performed from his days in JUDAS PRIEST to his last band HOLY RAGE. It features special guest appearances by Ian Hill of JUDAS PRIEST (who performed on the original recordings of some of these classics, like "Victim Of Changes" from the "Sad Wings Of Destiny" album), John McCoy (ex-GILLAN), Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) dueting with Al on "Victim Of Changes", a solo from Roy "Z" Ramirez of HALFORD and BRUCE DICKINSON, Japanese guitarist Tsuyoshi Ikedo from UNVEIL RAZE, Australia's Stu "Hammer" Marshall of DEATH DEALER, Chris Johnson from HOLY RAGE, Rob Allen on drums and longtime friend and collaborator, guitarist and producer of many of Al's albums, Paul May. These tracks have appeared in various forms on many albums over the past forty years. "Reloaded" also features a bonus track that is an excerpt of a guitar solo from the very JUDAS PRIEST demo featuring Hill on bass and K.K. Downing on guitar a never-heard treat for all JUDAS PRIEST fanatics.

"Reloaded" was once again recorded at Rock Solid Studios in the U.K.

"Reloaded" track listing:

01. Winter
02. MInd Conception
03. A Void To Avoid
04. Coming Thick & Fast
05. Heavy Thoughts
06. Never Satisfied
07. Money Talks
08. Cradle To The Grave
09. Love At War
10. Victim Of Changes
11. Mind Conception (early JUDAS PRIEST demo extract) (bonus track)

"Reloaded" is available to pre-order only on PledgeMusic together with other exclusive merchandise and experiences.

Regarding how the idea for the album came about, Atkins told PowerOfMetal.dk: "After Paul May and myself [were] asked to record a 'best-of' album by our record company, we recorded the ATKINS MAY PROJECT 'Anthology'. It then got me thinking about recording my own solo 'best-of] album, but set about re-recording all of my fave songs from the last four decades and using guest players. We still have three tracks still to record before it is all finished, but it is sounding absolutely killer."

He added: "[I am] really looking forward to this album and I hope everyone else who buys it will enjoy it too."

Atkins is the co-writer of several PRIEST songs which are included on the band's first two albums, "Rocka Rolla" and "Sad Wings of Destiny", both of which eventually went gold. Atkins co-penned the heavy metal classic "Victim of Changes", which was a combination of Rob Halford's song "Red Light Lady" and Atkins' own "Whiskey Woman". He also co-wrote "Winter", "Never Satisfied", "Dreamer Deceiver" and "Caviar and Meths".

In 1989 Atkins released his debut solo album, "Judgement Day", to great acclaim. But it was "Heavy Thoughts" and "Victim of Changes" (the latter being his collaborative album with ex-JUDAS PRIEST drummer Dave Holland) that brought him strong sales and critical acclaim around the world.

JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill penned the foreword to Al Atkins's autobiography, titled "Dawn of the Metal Gods: My Life in Judas Priest and Heavy Metal". The book, which was written with Neil Daniels — a freelance rock writer and heavy metal fan who befriended Atkins during the writing of Neil's book "The Story Of Judas Priest: Defenders Of The Faith" (Omnibus Press) — was released in 2009 via Iron Pages.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
