Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
TACO MARIAS LONG GONE
FULL ENGLISH CAFE A DISTANT GOLDEN MEMORY
So we tried Austin Java-then discovered La Mexicana
Where the coffee is cold ,stale and dark as death(also cheap!-with refills..
So now We Three Philosophers(occasionally with Plus One)
Convene on South First mornings when possible
With three color TV screens revealing Mexican soap operas
And an array of bakery heart attacks with artificial colorings and sugar
Lined up for our temptation beneath the long glass booth counter
Staff (like us)are barely bi-lingual,and "corn"tortillas become "flour"
Sometimes we request cutlery for the tacos, which we stuff with salsa
The bare bones skeleton staff make this an adventure
Parking rarely a problem-but now-everybody loves an ending
And all the other devotees are coming out and spending
time, money and memories of brighter times@La Mexicana
We may have come late to the party-but we ARE the party when there
Conversation flows like Rio Grande refugees. We cling to the life raft
of our joyous company. What next post La Mexicana?Quo Vadis,Austin?
