"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
CHILDREN OF THE WORLD
HUBRIS
I first saw saw the young pimple faced Bee Gees
singing at the Myer Chermside Shopping Mall in 1967
They had just arrived from Manchester in Brisbane. We watched, curiously detached
Their acoustic harmonies had a childlike falsetto choir quality /a sincerity rare in pop
Never paid to see them,as their career led them to America, disco, movies
Still knew their names -Barry Pot,Maurice Booze,Robin Pills
They broke up,re-united,wrote songs for others
You could hear the BeeGees through other voices/songs
"Meaningless Songs in Very High Voices'by the HeeBeeGeeBees made us laugh
No one went to see Sgt Pepper movie-they went to Saturday Night Fever instead!
Kings of Disco, living in Miami, coked to a party high life style
Robin went solo-thin ,quavering.Barry and Maurice floated solo failures.
They just kept coming back-spanning 60s tracks to 80s emptiness
perhaps,post-Beatles/ABBA,any group would find it hard to stay together
STAYING ALIVE?Two down, one to go,still we hum those tunes we all know...
