Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
POST ELECTION EMOTIONALISMS
"ANGEL FLYING SO CLOSE TO
THE GROUND"
"INARTICULATE
SPEECH OF THE HEART"
Every Country and
Western Saccharine Sentiment
about the loss of
love/truck/car/dog/job/mind/life
and then when the
bottle empties/jukebox art begins
to spin the bottle
on a random circle jerk.If everything repeats
why is always just
that little bit different? If we are programed,
where is the
script? If brighter brains trained us to obey
why do we feel
this illusion freedom?Questions do not answer us
I have a friend
who lost her son.All her life=her love for him.
Some day she will
go beyond loss-but not in this lifetime.
Loss never
fills.Emotions are more than waves, drowning her.
Her flesh speaks
of him in a way no lover can meet.
She made
him, trained him, brought him up to speak
and he sang-in art
,in life as a game in which every body wins.
If she can deal
with loss so philosophically-what of we
who only sing of
sadness as a sweet melancholy?
Flesh knows more
than speech. We learn as we breathe
There are
words-but also sighs and signs of relief and release
This is why we
reach-to the crash pad of each page day
and the unsung drunken dream of
every drowning evening
