PLAYLIST: 26 -08-2018 – SHOW 273 – LONG STRANGE TRIP #1

Strange Fruit is a unique two-hour radio show exploring the world of underground, strange and generally neglected music. All shows are themed and all shows set out to give the most hardened of sound-hounds some new delight to sample.

The show is also unique in providing homework for undergraduate students on North West Kent College’s Foundation Degree in Professional Writing (who dig up many of the odd facts featured in the links between tracks).

Neil Nixon, the founder and presenter of the show has released a book about rare albums for Gonzo Multimedia.

The show is broadcast on Miskin Radio every Sunday from 10-00-midnight.

THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?

MAY WE DWELL IN THIS ONE?
Stretch it out like a lizard in the sun
So it lives longer by seeming slower
Like lives in a village or a country town
Like that Scottish woman of 109 who subsists
on a diet of porridge and no men.Like TITANIC-
a mass grave now picked clean by tourists and the rich
who collect experiences ,and stack them like pinned butterflies
to show who owns and who controls. We know
Life is the winner/when obstacles shift for each volunteer
who gives more than we need,to "shake the Heavens more just"
If NOW is all there is/may it be long and wide and deep as oceans
that can no longer hide their wrecked pasts, but deliver them up
like parcels from AMAZON,or some ancient civilization
that died without a name, when language was only sung and spoken,
and no recording devices heard either Rumi,Jesus or Socrates.

Poetry still holds us in her memories as a relative.Everything is relative.

OFFSHORED/OFF PLANET
WE CAME FROM THE STARS
&our thoughts are in the sky
We fly between continents
One will pay to fly higher
Our thoughts are already there
Thanks to science fiction
When we arrive we will ask
Is this our Final Destination?
From Moon to Mars to Space Bases
To colonies and mining camps,too
We have been IN SEARCH OF SPACE for a long time
Will our bodies make it through?

SPIRITS BURNING REVIEW

http://www.jpsmusicblog.com/2018/09/new-progressive-rock-releases-from-deep.html

Progressive/Space rock band Spirits Burning are collaborating with science fiction/fantasy writer Michael Moorcock on the band's latest album "An Alien Heat." The new16-track set takes one of Moorcock's latest literary novels and turns it into a space rock opera. It is also the first Spirits Burning album to feature the work of Albert Bouchard, founding member of Blue Oyster Cult. The band begins with the hard rock, guitar-driven energy of "Hothouse Flowers" and the slower, thumping rhythm of "Geronimo." Singer Ann Marie Castellano takes the lead on the vocals of the dark, moody vibe of "Soiree Of Fire," before shifting gears for the folk/rock appeal of "Fall In Love." The album continues with the experimental electronic soundscape of "Dark Dominion" and the sonic space rock of the seven-plus minute adventure of "To Steal A Space Traveler." Spirits Burning showcase their softer side on the ballad "Learning The Art," before finishing their new album with seventies rock style of "Back To 1896" and steady pace, lyric driven closer "Old Friends With New Faces." I HAD A CAT CALLED 'DOG'
i was adopted by her
she saw me as a stray
and decided to love me more
she followed me around
i had to care for and feed her
she became my albatross
my lucky charm/my Doppleganger
my boss/my full-time caretaker
whenever i felt trauma
Dog was there to calm me down
One day, when i was sitting on the porch
She attracted my attention.Once she was sure
that i was watching, she departed this life. I am sure
she is still watching.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
