THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

SELECTIVE EDITING
JUST UP OUR STREET,HOMELESS GATHER
Their tents were removed by that Texas Governor
The Council,compassionate.Our neighbors,angry.
Homeless are visible on this Thanksgiving Day

SALES!are booming with Christmas merchandise
All round our neighborhood-Christmas Lights!
But the parcels are empty in all Shopping Malls
Black Friday calls,and we answer

Roads packed with travelers home for their families
Those without friends contemplate suicide
This shopping season, even Veterans decease themselves
Hard to be happy with no one to hold

For those with a memory, the First Thanksgivings
Displaced Indigenous, who chose to be generous
They were repaid with aggression and dispossession
Hard to celebrate when your land has been stolen

Do not even think of that turkey industry
Nation sedated by dosed tryptophan
While we are sleeping off gluttony consumption
Indigenous are calling for land to return

Vegans/vegetarians-your future is calling!
World is awaiting permaculture/recycling
Plastic must find a way for reduction
Our minds hearts combine to find Thanksgiving solutions

So THIS is what i am grateful for-peace,prosperity
Generosity for all!

Re: How ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ Became Sergio Leone’s Butchered Swan Song • Cinephilia & Beyond

SERGIO LEONE 'S "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS"
made Clint Eastwood into a star,as did"FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE"
But the film that astonished me most was "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA":..
Of course,i saw only the censored version, with jump cuts and missing sections..
Yet even then,it was an astonishing work.Like Sergei Bondarchuk's 'WAR &PEACE"
it was meant to be a six to nine hour epic, but was butchered to meet the limits
of American viewing habits.Same with 1900.Same with Abel Gance's NAPOLEON..
Americans can abide two to three hour movies, but balk at devoting two nights to epic cinema..
LORD OF THE RINGS saved longer versions for the DVD release, and DIRECTOR'S CUTS
often allow us to see the uncensored versions of European cinema masterpieces.
But the five versions of BLADE RUNNER still clock in at two hours each,
and DELETED SCENES only twenty minutes extra.Sergio Leone is remembered
by those spaghetti westerns, but his epic ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA
is the version we need to see our country as other's see it(even if censored/even if butchered)
Like the Venus De Milo with arms,or the Great Pyramid with restored capstone,
it will require another way of seeing/another way of being..
@peace with demanding and dramatic epic cinema stories..YES!

ONCE,SCRIVENERS
When writing was a privileged skill
Once,rhetoricians/declaimers/rememberers
whose awareness extended ours..Forgetfulness moves in,
cultural continuity gets cut/edited/censored to absurdity

from Blue Dahlia to homeless encampments. So stories change-but we can go back to Dashell Hammett

as must the sharing of them in scripts, stories, songs and poems.2019 on its last breaths-
Thanksgiving and Christmas mean Black Friday and Christmas Sales.Mammon and Baal replace Santa Claus.
Movies are schmaltz and saccharine sentiment.Turkey sedated, television addicted,Amazon Prime replaces Amazonia

BUTTERFLIES vs BULLDOZERS
MONARCHS VS PRESIDENTS
Waters vs walls.Beauty vs Budgets
Wings over walls.Colors over dull obedience.
Migration ,whether of people or butterflies or wildlife

A right-wing group led by Stephen Bannon and prominent allies of President Donald Trump has been bulldozing the banks of the Rio Grande to erect a privately funded border fence along the water's edge despite lacking permits to build on the international flood plain in Texas.
We Build the Wall plans to install a 3.5-mile "water wall" and paved road on private land immediately adjacent to the river, which serves as the U.S.-Mexico boundary. Construction activity along the river banks is tightly regulated under international treaties because structures can exacerbate flood damage and alter the course of the river channel.
The International Boundary Water Commission, which issues permits to build in the Rio Grande channel, has asked the group to suspend construction, submit a detailed engineering study and withdraw its excavators and other heavy equipment from the river levees.

Gonzo Weekly #365/6

Gonzo Weekly #365/6
THE LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND ISSUE
http://www.gonzoweekly.com/

This poignantly proggy issue features a love letter to Rick Wakeman, the 8th Futurological Free Cultural Spaces Symposium (FCS) in Amsterdam, Tony Beesley, The Clash, Hawkwind, there is animal rescue with PAART, and we prove that Alan Moore knows the score even when he has taken his name off the credits.

And there are radio shows from Mack Maloney and Friday Night Progressive AND Canterbury sans Fronieres AND Merrell Fankhauser, but no sign of Srange Fruit this week, there is a column from Kev Rowland, and one from Mr Biffo, and one from C J Stone, and one from Neil Nixom but Roy Weard, is on hiatus. There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and antichinuses who have lost their shoes (OK, nothing to do with tiny marsupials who are searching for their footwear, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. And the best part is IT's ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!

This issue features:

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
