Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"
OMNIVORE'S LAMENT
My ethical friends are vegan and vegetarian(some piscatorian)
For me,meat was a luxury(and seafood both rare and precious-
but that factory chicken tastes like antibiotics/its flesh falls like Presidents.
I never knew chickens made "Nuggets".What are these fried "wings?"
I see no resemblance to a living chicken in these things.
Once,i bought a 12 piece chicken,and tried to re-assemble it.FAILURE!
In some places,chicken's gizzards are a luxury.Not @McDonalds!
Chicken has become a "convenience food".Eat,release,forget.Anonymous as death.
I once won a LIVE chicken in a Poetry Contest.I had to give her to people who could care for her
And she lived to a ripe old age.Died only of "Natural causes".Was never sliced, diced, masticated.
Chicken "Factories "abuse the caged, like babies at the Border. They do not see sunlight.Their fate is separation.
Me?I wax poetic but still revert to ancient primal instincts when tearing into chicken carcasses/flesh.
Ovid's METAMORPHOSES warned me"Entrails within, entrails at the end"
I am not "playing chicken'.I am just "picking up the pieces"
