Fairport Convention bassist Dave Pegg replaced by son for annual Wintour after injuring his thumb... while washing up

When a band’s bass player tears a tendon in his finger just weeks before the annual tour starts, it could spell catastrophe.

But in the case of veteran bassist Dave Pegg, the bass player with folk rock legends Fairport Convention since the early Seventies, the answer was simple – his musician son replaced him.

The group began their annual Wintour – their 30th in a row – last week with Matt Pegg deputising for his dad - though Pegg senior still features onstage to crack jokes, sing, and direct people to the merchandising stall that he mans to keep himself busy.

Pegg – who maimed his finger while taking a knife out of the dishwasher – hopes to get his job back when the finger heals.
