Jeff Moehlis: Eric Burdon Continues to Roar

Eric Burdon
The Beatles invaded America 50 years ago, and The Animals weren't far behind, with their definitive version of "House of the Rising Sun" spending three weeks at the top of the Billboard charts in 1964.

Other hits followed for The Animals, including "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," with the only constant band member during their 1960s run being singer Eric Burdon.

After The Animals disbanded, Burdon continued to make great music, with War("Spill the Wine") and in a notable solo career. His latest album, 2013's 'Til Your River Runs Dry, shows that he's still got it as a 70-something.

On Saturday night, we'll get to hear Burdon's famous pipes live and in the flesh, when he'll perform at the Libbey Bowl in his current hometown of Ojai. Billed as a birthday show, we can look forward to lots of old classics and some new gems.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
