Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
BLACK FLIGHT FROM EAST AUSTIN
VICTORY GRILL FROM THE CHITLIN CIRCUIT REMAINS
and
Council land next to it is(temporarily)Kenny Dorham's Backyard
where
we do WORDJAZZ,and where community gardens and free children's libraries attract
all ages
Well,the
Urban Renewal Committee was going to cancel the lease
So
East Side artists rose up and came to the meeting
The
room was packed with spectacular promise
Each
was allowed to speak for three minutes
after
Harold McMillan's Powerpoint presentation
The
vote was put-the lease extended until September
By
Zen,Harold has to bring the place up to code.
Tonight
was a memory of SOS (SAVE BARTON SPRINGS)activism
They
extended the time limits so more could be heard
All
were positive and actively listening
And
a community space was temporarily saved -
for
jazz, for art,for gardens and for people
This
is the way of our future-to articulate new panaceas
and
make new gardens in old spaces
See
you@Kenny Dorham's Backyard on East 11th-
make
sure you are there before September !
KEEP
YOUR DREAMS ALIVE!
